Beretta 9000s Compact Pistol Now Available With B-Lok Integrated Mechanical Safety Lock ACCOKEEK, Md., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Beretta U.S.A. will introduce theB-Lok integrated mechanical safety as an option on its popular Model 9000Sseries pistol at the annual 2002 SHOT Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. "Beretta has been studying locks built into pistols for over a decade nowand has chosen a design for implementation in the Model 9000S which met ourhigh standards for safety and quality," said Jeff Reh, General Counsel forBeretta U.S.A. Corp. "Our standards require that a lock, whether it is builtinto a gun or is external to the gun, be easy to operate, function correctly, not reduce the reliability of the firearm, obviously be locked when it isengaged and be readily deactivated only by an authorized user. We believe ourB-Lok integrated lock will meet all of these criteria." Beretta's integrated lock blocks the movement of the hammer using a keyedsystem. The B-Lok also features a safety warning system, which will allow thegun owner to verify, by both sight and feel, whether the safety is engaged ordisengaged. The body of the B-Lok safety is made from hardened steel and the head ofthe mechanical lock consists of a rotating pick-resistant plunger. "For some time now, Beretta has provided cable locks with its firearms,"Reh added. "We continue to believe that cable locks provide the best means ofpreventing accidental misuse of a firearm because the lock requires that thefirearm be unloaded before the lock can be applied. A criticism of cablelocks, though, is that they can be cut or someone who intends to misuse thefirearm can saw through the cable. Although it may not be possible to preventevery person intent on misusing a firearm from defeating a locking mechanism, the B-Lok integrated lock is more resistant to purposeful circumvention. Forthis reason, we will offer integrated locks for customers who wish to purchasethem, but will still provide cable locks to aid in safe storage, especially inhomes where young children might be present." The popular 9000S compact semiautomatic pistols, which are light in weightbut potent in caliber, are quickly turning into the ideal carry gun for lawenforcement and personal defense. The Beretta 9000S pistols are now available in 9mm as well as .40 S.&W.calibers and have a high magazine capacity (12* rounds in 9mm and 10 rounds in.40 S.&W.) With the use of an optional spacer, magazines from the 92/96 seriespistols may be used. A unique accessory magazine bottom will extend whengripped (providing increased gripping surface) but can be retracted whenholstered. Features on the Beretta 9000S include: a technopolymer frame, whichreduces the overall weight of the gun; the grips are made of high-tech,wear-resistant soft polymer, overmolded onto the frame, which absorbsvibrations and ensures a firm grip, even in bad weather conditions;chrome-plated bore and chamber; and a steel alloy, sand blasted, phosphatedand Bruniton finished slide for maximum corrosion resistance and durability. An automatic firing pin block available on all Beretta 9000S models preventsthe gun from firing in case of inadvertent drops or strikes against hardsurfaces.
