BERKELEY -- A 21-year-old man was shot in the thigh Monday morning by a woman who says she was trying to protect her roommate.Police got a call about 9:30 a.m. reporting a domestic disturbance at a home in the 2000 block of Blake Street.As the officers arrived, they heard a gunshot and then saw a woman standing outside holding a handgun.Upon seeing police, the woman dropped the gun and surrendered.She told officers that an altercation between the man and her friend turned physical and her roommate screamed out for help."She came to her aid and subsequently shot the man who was trying to hurt her," said Berkeley police Lt. Cynthia Harris.The man was taken to Oakland's Highland Hospital, where he is in stable condition, said a nursing supervisor.The shooter was questioned and released.
