Brief: Potter Sheriff's Department to give gun-safety program The Potter County Sheriff's Department will present a nationally recognized gun accident-prevention program dubbed "Eddie Eagle" this week to Amarillo second-graders.Texas Senate Bill 430, which became law in September, requires that visiting school resource officers offer elementary school students annual instruction in a firearm accident-prevention program. The Eddie Eagle GunSafe program does not teach gun handling, gun nomenclature or gun use.The program does not make value judgments about whether guns are good or bad, and it does not promote gun use or participation, according to information from the Potter County Sheriff's Department. The program teaches children four steps to follow if they find a gun:Stop.Don't touch.Leave the area.Tell an adult.Eddie Eagle's first appearance will be to second-grade classes today at Rolling Hills Elementary School, 2800 W.
