Ohio concealed-carry gun bill clears hurdle The Associated Press COLUMBUS - A revamped bill that would allow most Ohioans to carry hidden guns cleared one hurdle Thursday with its approval by a House subcommittee. The bill - which still faces a potential veto by Gov. Bob Taft - was passed on a 4-1 vote. It now goes to the Civil and Commercial Law committee for hearings and a vote before it would reach the House floor. Rep. John Willamowski, a Republican from Lima and the committee's chairman, declined to speculate on how many hearings might be held. Sponsored by Rep. Jim Aslanides, a Republican from Coshocton, the bill would require sheriffs to issue gun permits. Among the requirements, Ohioans must complete a criminal background check and a safety training course. The bill would leave areas such as schools and courthouses off-limits. http://enquirer.com/editions/2001/10/19/loc_ohio_concealed-carry.html
