Daisy Response toConsumer Product Safety Commission Complaint
The action by the CPSC is an administrative action. The products have not been recalled. Daisy is reviewing the complaint and will respond in a prompt manner. A close examination of the performance of the two airgun models will demonstrate that they are safe when appropriately used under adult supervision.
Daisy Manufacturing Company takes seriously any incidents involving our products. We are and always have been committed to the safe use of our air rifles. Over the past 115 years, we have built our business providing people with a quality product that is safe when used properly. Millions of consumers use Daisy products safely every day without incident. The keys to the safe use of any air rifle are education and adult supervision. Daisy has helped to train millions of people about how to properly use these products and has led the industry in helping to develop safety standards. Daisy products go above and beyond established standards for safety. Detailed information about the correct way to use an air rifle is included in all product packaging, literature, and on the air rifle itself. Furthermore, although not required, Daisy proactively places warnings about the appropriate use of this product in all of our advertising. It is important to note that the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has reviewed these same models regularly over the past 20 years, most recently in 1999, and found them to be safe with no defects. The models being reviewed by CPSC are sold only to people who are at least 16 years of age and should be used only under the supervision of an adult. Those models also contain numerous safety features. In order to fire the air gun one needs to pump it, pull back the bolt, push forward the bolt, aim it, and fire. One cannot fire this gun without completing all of these steps. We are not aware of any accidental firings of these models. At any time during these steps, the user can always check to see whether the air rifle is loaded. All of the information that we have seen about the incidents being reviewed by CPSC indicates that individuals using the air rifles were ignoring safety warnings at the time they fired the product. Our products have been used by millions of American parents and their children for more than a century to teach concentration, eye-hand coordination, the value of good sportsmanship, and respect for firearms, while providing countless hours of parent/child togetherness and enjoyment. We are committed to continuing to work with regulators and others to provide safe products and the information that parents need to enjoy them for generations to come.
