People Protecting Themselves With Guns People Protecting With Guns The attacks on September 11th put a lot of Americans on edge. Now as the war wages overseas, many are protecting themselves here at home. Thousands of people packed in to the I-24 Expo Center getting the latest information on guns. People who said they would never own a gun are now buying weapons, hand guns and rifles in every shape and size, ammunition and even knives. It was the average fair for a gun show, but suddenly it is about more than just collecting or hunting. Ladies young and old buying hand guns, shotguns rifles, firearms, anything they could use to protect their family. "I think it's a good thing really, because women need to know how to take care of themselves also."While bombs rain down on Afghanistan, some people here are picking up arms preparing to do battle in the homeland fearing that the terrorists will return. "I think a lot more people are getting a little bit more concerned about taking care of things at home." With many first timers on the scene, there is an emphasis on safety. With gun ownership comes responsibility: functions, the proper care and maintenance for the gun and especially know and be proficient as far the shooting of the gun goes. With patriotism and fear suddenly sweeping our nation, many who never considered buying guns before are suddenly fired up. The Academy of Personal Protection and Safety in Nashville said it is important to check out the background and resume of those teaching gun safety classes. The APPS program does teach people how to fire a weapon, but with an emphasis on when not to use a gun. 10.27.01News 2 at 10 http://www.wkrn.com/Global/story.asp?S=524983&nav=1ugB5OUu
