Concealed Carry Bill Needs Your Help Gun Owners of America E-Mail Alert 8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102Springfield, VA 22151 (703)321-8585; fax: 321-8408February 5, 2002Dear Georgia gun rights supporter, H.B. 304, a pro-gun bill sponsored by Rep. Robert Franklin (R--Marietta), passed its initial subcommittee and now advances to the House Rules Committee. That's the good news. The bad news is that the Rules Committee is a notorious "killing field" and is the logical spot for anti-gunners to kill the bill for the year. Only massive pressure from the grassroots on the members of the Rules Committee can advance the bill to the full House at this point. H.B. 304 is a great bill that would eliminate almost all of the No Safety Zones from the state's concealed carry law. Under current law, decent, law-abiding concealed carry permit holders are forced to disarm themselves many different times while going about their normal business. These No Safety Zones where carrying a gun for self-defense is forbidden include: all athletic or sporting events, all churches and church functions, all publicly owned or operated buildings, all establishments selling alcohol for on-premises consumption, and more. Thus, thousands of Georgians are completely defenseless when they take their families out for pizza. Rep. Franklin's H.B. 304 would simply remove almost all of those prohibitions on safety, with the sole exceptions of courthouses and actual bars where more than 50% of sales come from alcohol. Of course, GOA would prefer no restrictions on self-defense at all-- no permit required, period-- but this is an excellent and huge step in the right direction. ACTION: If your Representative is on the House Rules Committee, please contact him or her immediately and politely insist that H.B. 304 be passed to the full House. A committee roster and a pre-written letter appear below for your convenience. Also, please make certain to identify yourself as a constituent. You can identify your Representative by going to http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm and entering your zipcode in the Elected Officials section, then clicking the State link when the results are generated. You can also call the Georgia House of Representatives at 404-656-5082 or toll-free at 800-282-5800.

Dear Representative, As a member of the House Rules Committee, you are instrumental in determining which bills advance to the floor. I am asking that you do everything in your power to support H.B. 304 which is Rep. Franklin's bill to eliminate No Safety Zones for concealed carry permit holders. H.B. 304 would simply restore the right of self-defense to honest, law-abiding concealed carry permit holders-- by removing the No Safety Zones that allow criminals to commit their offenses against citizens left completely defenseless under current law. Sincerely,
Georgia House of Representatives Rules Committee Roster
