One person was killed and another was injured before police had arrived to stop Chillies. Nick Katzenstein, Santa Barbara Police Officer Lieutenant According to Santa Barbara Police Officer Lieutenant Nick Katzenstein, Chillies may have been associated with the Crips gang. Chillies was possibly also highly agitated during the incident because he had been kicked out of the nightclub. "It may be he has a gang mentality that he didn't like being challenged when he was told to leave. That caused him to become confrontational. There is no question that this was a minor incident that escalated into something terribly major." The scene could have worsened because Chillies allegedly fired several more shots indiscriminately into the crowd. "The officer approached the subject and ordered him to drop his weapon. He pointed the gun at the officers. One of the officers had a clear shot and took it," said Katzenstein. Chillies was shot and killed by the officer. Chillie's cousin, Ravanne Bey of Grover Beach, was detained and questioned but released on Sunday. Police believe that Chillies acted on his own.
