Ute Hunting Guide Shoots Attacking Mountain Lion Friday, November 23, 2001 A hunting guide for the Ute Tribe killed a mountain lion that was trying to attack an elk hunter. The incident happened in the White Rocks Canyon area in western Uintah County earlier this month. Guide Ryan Burson says Brad Douglas of Kaysville had just shot an elk and was walking toward the kill when a mountain lion leaped from some brush to attack Douglas from behind. Burson yelled a warning to DougAlas who dodged the animal, giving Burson time to raise his rifle and shoot the cat. He said he had to shoot the animal seven more times before it died. Burson took the animal to taxidermist Bob Barton, who said the animal did not appear to be sick or old, which would make the lion more likely to attack a person. -- Vernal Express http://www.sltrib.com/2001/nov/11232001/utah/151420.htm
