Man runs in, waving gun. You:a) comply and cross your fingers,b) chuckle at how that gun you didn't buy seems so reasonably priced now,c) kiss the wife and kids when you go home. [KABA NOTE: After shooting the criminal in self-defense]This criminal demanded cigs, then shot the guy when he turned to get them! Then he runs away without his booty!
Search On for Suspect in Fairview ShootingDecember 12, 2001, 04:45 PM E-mail this story Print this story By Pat Dooris and Jim Parker, KGW Staff Police are looking for a gunman who shot and killed a clerk at a convenience store in Fairview Tuesday night. It was the community's first homicide in 20 years, authorities said. The 49-year-old clerk was identifed as Thomas Chase. He worked at the Minute Mart store in Fairview for the last three years. Police said the robbery report came in just before 9 p.m. Tuesday night. The gunman rushed into the store, demanded cigarettes, and then opened fire, according to Fairview's police chief. The clerk was shot twice in the back, and died later at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. Police were talking to several witnesses but had no description of the suspect. He was last seen on foot. Customers placed bouquets of flowers at the door of the store on Wednesday in rememberance of Chase. (Copyright 2001 by The Associated Press.
