done it a couple times. they are real fun guns. good way to get yourself in trouble too. I left mine buried at a friends ranch in Calif. most of the time, took it it out to shoot on occasion with a silencer.

the smith i visit showed me a way to make it semi and fire from a closed bolt (required[xx(])
says that with what i have done on some old guns already i could do all the work and he would help me mill down the bolt to work
only catch is, haveing the tube and pattern for the new reciever along with the parts gun at the same time constitutes haveing a machine gun untill i get it modified far enough that it would no longer qualify as an "un-assembled machine gun" so i could be subject to being "sent up" dureing those few days if i were to get raided....lol

Shotgun News has a article in converting a Sten kit into a closed bolt carbine. Looks pretty neat, he used a Uzi 16 inch barrel and an AR trigger group. I'd rather stick with building AK's though

i too read one about useing an ar trigger group. charely says quicker and simpler to do this one, involves sleeveing the reciever and just fileing down the auto catch...cheaper than dirt has the parts kit for under $80 and a reciever tube with patern is about $35 think i need to talk to him one more time to be clear on what needs to be done on this and get one ordered before their gone!

I have one of these kits but I just can't bring myself to spend $300 plus to convert a $12.50 POS machine gun into a worthless (to me) $312.50 POS semi-auto.
