Rugster... Need LEO Equipment Advice...

I'm looking for some new body armor, decided the first place I'd try was GALLS, so I called them up and ordered a new magazine. It came in the mail, and boy do they have some new stuff out. I can't figure out what to get. What kinda vest to you have, what type of trauma plate? What do you recommend getting? I want something I can wear full time, and be comfortable, main reason I don't wear one now. I carry a .40sw, so I was thinking a threat level 2, but dont' know if it would be to thick. Maybe I should get a 2A. The last vest I got was a handme down safariland, and in October, hopefully I'll be at BPD, and they don't supply vests so I'm gonna use some grant money and some saved up and get my own. I wanna get the best one I can get, that I'll be comfortable in for the next 5 years.

Also, I don't know if its true, but I hear that metal trauma plate will splinter up and acutally cause more panel penetration if shot directly.

Anyway, its a big investment, and any advice will be good.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

I hope I can give you some advice you will never need!We are issued the the ExtremeZx,threat level IIIa1 its weight for the vest is.99 pound. If there is such a thing, this is as comfortable body Armor as I have seen.WE use the vapor -T crew neck T shirts or I do.As for the Trauma plates most of the guys use the Saferilands,I had a problem with mine.Im 6'5 and weigh 270 pds,no it aint the donuts. But the trauma plate wasnt feeling the gap as I am broad shouldered, so I got a second chance trauma plate. I have seen several vest come and go and this is the best vest Ive seen. There is never a reason not to wear your body armour. If your Dept. doesnt issue it suguest they do,if you gain no ground please above all else buy your own.The threat level II is less expensive and should stop a hand gun bullet as well as a level III.Academys are now encourging the use of body Armour more than ever before.I hear there are going to be more Federal grants this physical yr because of home land security. So check with your purchasing agent, then your congressmen,it is a must.As for the Trauma plates at the range one day we shot one with a .357sig a solid hit the plate was Proped up against the wall, all it did was put a dent in it.We have it hung over the door in the locker room. My threat level III vest is only .14 in thick. Any time I can be of help Give me a yell on here, and Im always open to your comments.Stay safe.

Thanx Rugster, I really appreciate your help. As for The wannabe Law overthere, just ignore him, I don't know what his problem is. I'm sure he won't last long on the board with an attitude like that.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
