I'm not talking about from a bench rest either. Standing free hand only. Mine is with my 6inch S&W 357mag with a power port. A 3 inch group is the best that I can do at 25yds fireing slowly. I know that there are alot of LEOs out there and other good handgun shooters too, Lets here about your best shots!

My cheap little FEG Hi-Power clone groups surprisingly well. I've never taken a ruler out but the last time I was at the range I was getting them in there mighty tight. I find that, instead of putting up big silhouette targets, I put up 6" paper plates. The target is smaller so you are forced to focus your vision and attention on a smaller target. It's just a personal method I use. 3" at 25 yards with your S&W? Shoot. I just bought a 686 with a 6" barrel but haven't scoped it yet. I'm hoping better than 3".[This message has been edited by idsman75 (edited 10-11-2001).]

Mine doesn't have a scope and I'm not a very good shot with a handgun. I don't think a 3 inch group is bad for me. That was not from a rest either. I know others can do better and I'm sure you will when you get that scope zeroed.

Believe it or not, I can print a two inch group with my stupid Jennings .380 at 50 feet.I've never tried the thing at 25 yrds., but given what I keep the gun for (stays in my truck when I park every day in North Philly, why donate an expensive gun if someone decides to borrow my truck), if the guy is more than fifty feet away, I'm using my feet, not the Jennings to get out of trouble.

I always get my first shot or two in the center but by the sixth shot there is always one that strays out. I know it is me and not the gun but I figure if the first two or three shots don't do the job it's time to go anyway.

Shane i know what you mean.Seems like 6 will be inside 3-4" 3more just outside and one way the hell off track sometimes completely off the target I have never figured out where the one comes from.To answer the original question about the size if a cigarette pack at appx 50 feet.Thats the best ever, never duplicated, with a sig-2340 Very slow fire ha ha

I can keep 6 shots touching with my Dan Wesson 44 mag, scoped with a leupold 4x at 25, I never measure the groups. Usually they are in a nice neat little cluster in the bullseye. My 9 and 40 are not nearly as tight. My little ruger mark II is capable of what looks to be a sub 3 inch group from a mag of 10. I'll have to get out the tape I guess. It's raining and I'm going back to hunting.

idsman75I think Mel Gibson said in the Patroit, "Aim small, Miss small." I've liked that little phrase ever since I heard it!

Standing free hand only. I'm right about the same with a Colt Python Elite, averaging about 3 inch groups with a few flyers.Bench rest with a SW/PC .44mag/Leupold 2X consistant 5 inch groups at 100yards.I believe my aged eyes and kind of shakey hands are taking its toll.Know where I can get a deal on about 20 scopes?

I don't generally shoot my handguns at 25 yards, that's a little far (particularly for self-defense training which is more like 7-10 yards). But, I can shoot about 3" groups with almost all of my pistols at that range. With the assistance of a bench I could probably reduce that to about 2".

On a GOOD day (seems like those are getting to be fewer and fewer), my series 70 gold cup will print cloverleafs, 5 rounds, all touching. Never measured center to center but I would guess about an inch and a half.On a similar good day, my Smith 41 will print sub 1 inch groups at 25 and still lose the match - dang!

That is some shooting! Standing, no rest and no scope, I guess six inches at 25 yards would make me mighty happy. That's firing single action with my Smith .44 special or my Dan Wesson .44 magnum.I've come to realize that being a good shot requires a BIG investment in time and money. It's a lot like hitting a golf ball straight and long every time; looks incredibly simple to do, until you actually try to do it.

Had to requal, for security position, shot high score, 2 inches at 25 yards. Had good practice shooting beer cans at this range. S&W model 639 stainless with target sights.

My best group ever was with hardball at 5 yds with my Commander. First one went thru the guy's shoulder and the second one missed. (He ducked.) Both impacted in the bookcase behind him about 6" apart. Try a "tight group" during an adrenalin rush sometime.

I have hunted with my .357 Blackhawk for almost 20 years. At 25 yards offhand uith 158g JHP's my groups run around 2" sometimes smaller - sometimes larger.
