Where would you go?

If the alert came that nuclear war is coming to America- where would you go to protect you and your family? It's obvious that the government has used no tax dollars to protect anyone but themselves. It might be best to just stand at ground zero and get it over with quickly!

I would hop a boat as close to the middle of the ocean as I could get.I have heard that would be the safest place because the water would obsorb most of the heat and blast. If its one of those blow the whole world to bits nuclear bombs I dont guess it would matter.

I would hope I was within a mile or two of ground zero.

home, Im far enoough away from anything interesting, and the wind currents mostly trend east from here.

Ground zero would be an option if you knew where that was going to be. It is not going to be pretty in the aftermath. I would go to the 7-11 type store close to me. Get all the supplies I could, make sure all the vehicles and gas cans are full, then come home to wait and see.

If I knew then, what I know now.

I would probably head West. I live in Kansas City, and actually, according to rumor we rank pretty highly on the list of potential targets during a nuclear war. Supposedly, it's because we are a rail center. But anyway, heading West would probably be my best option, because there are miles of NOTHING west of here. The only thing you would have to worry about is getting too close to Denver.
Kind of a scary topic, really...

I'd probably sit tight. I'd be at least a hundred miles from any likely target and with weather patterns moving West to East, there's no place I could reach in time to be clear of the blast debris in the upper atmosphere. If I had sufficient advance warning, I think I'd head *way* South - Argentina or Brazil. Not that it would really matter . . . once the nukes start falling, the odds are life would not be worth living anywhere on what was left of the planet. All the more reason to bring these renegade states such as Iraq & North Korea into line with civilization.

Depends upon how much time one had. If I had less than three hours, i'd sit tight for where I am I could not get far enough to get away to where the prevailing winds would help and I would just get closer to some prime targets.

I agree with E.Williams, I'd be hauling my little boat away as fast as I could, and fend for myself in the water, book down to south america (don't know why anyone'd bother waising a nuke on anything down there).

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
