I visited a local pawn shop browsing through their guns, and what do I find, in a stack of rifles and shot guns leaning next to the counter? An I.H. M1 carbine!A little surface rust on the barrel, but seemed to be in otherwise good condition.I'm not up on M1 values, but is $299.99 worth it? Please let me know!

Are you sure it is a carbine?. International harvester made M1 garands but not carbines that i have heard of.

If it's original, by all means buy it. The parts are worth more than that.

I remeber Laneco (now defunct thanks to walmart) had them for sale 12 years ago for $69.00. Would the price go up that much in 12 years?

    lokdok,
12 years ago, before the ban, you could buy AK pattern rifles for $99.00, but they are all $300+.I suppose it's possible.
    Yes I am sure it's a carbine.

Assume you meant, IA not IH?

    DWS,
You are probably right, all I remember seeing is the word "International",and did not read the rest.So I will assume you are correct.

The only thing that worries me a little is the surface rust, but if you look at it closely and believe it is superficial and fixable, $299 is a decent price for a vintage gun. There are still a lot of M1s out there with no rust though.

I know collector prices vary by manufacturer but I don't have a reference to tell me where IA falls on that list. I recently watched a dealer appraise a Postal Meter gun at $350 which had been a Blue Sky import (out of the country and back in again). I see a lot of M1 carbines around $350 nowadays, (Winchesters bring more) and I think new they're at least that much from IMI now. Even the Iver Johnsons and Universals go for $350 now at gun shows.

    "Intelegence Artificial???"

Anyway, yea don't pass it up, they are great rifles, especially if you'll invest another $150 getting it Armor Coated Green hehehe...can ya tell what one of my next projects is....

Anyway, I'd say go for it, and its at a pawn shop so the price is definately negotiable, offer him $250, and put the cash on the table so he can see it and tell him its all ya got and ya really want it, then give him an innocent puppy dog face look. It always works when I get my girlfriend to do it...

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
