I have not handeled one, but I've never seen anything good posted about them. In fact, I've heard that they may be one of the worst 1911's yet.

These were recently critiqued and the opinion was that they were not
good guns. Someone called them "Crock Island". Believe they are made
in the Phillipines. I know that the dealer price has gone from $315.00
to $289.00. Should be an indicator.

I have a rock island 45 and as of about 500 rounds I have never had a jam or miss fire. Mine is of the single action variety ,and I also use colt and army surplus clips in it.
Accuracy is not that great but I'm told the originals weren't that good either.
The only thing I don't like is that the tail on the back is rather rough on the web of your hand. I wouldn't be afraid to buy another one tomorrow.......Hope this helps.....Greg

A few months ago Shotgun News had an article comparing them with mil spec colts, springfield, lama, and a few others and they did comparitively well in the article. According to the article it was as close to the original mil spec as one could get. Acuracy and dependability were as good as the colt and springfield and better than the cheaper versions. Check out Shotgun News archives for the article. I will look through some of my old issues to see if I can find it.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

I am shooting ball type surplus stuff. I have never cleaned the gun other than spraying it out with Rem Oil after each outing........Greg

Apparently, from what I understand, they have really poor quality control, and quality varies from batch to batch. The earlier ones, when they first starting importing them were actually fairly nice, but some of the latest ones I've seen were just horrible. If your looking for something in that price range, I'd just head for a charles daily, or find a dealer who will swap them out if you bring back a bad one.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
