What with all the madness in the world, and the slow stripping from us of everything this country was founded on, many people have professed certain sentiments. "From my cold dead hands..". is one I have said, and firmly believe. And, it's something I've heard many of you say here. It troubles me deeply to see the spiral we are in, and the way things have changed since my youth. Sadly, for the worse, in most cases. I for one am tired of how some individuals are trying to get things changed to suit them. I love this country, the freedoms I have, and for the most part things the way they are. I spent most of the morning doing some searches, and happened upon a poem about freedom. I think it says alot of what some have fought to preserve, and how most of us here feel.

FREEDOM

Dusty old helmet, rusty old gun,
They sit in the corner and wait-
Two souvenirs of the Second World War
That have withstood the time, and the hate.

Mute witness to a time of much trouble
Where kill or be killed was the law-
Were these implements used with honor?
What was the glory they saw?

Many times I've wanted to ask them-
And now that we're here all alone,
Relics all three of a war long ago-
Where has freedom gone?

Freedom flies in your heart like an eagle.
Let it soar with the winds high above.
Among the spirits of soldiers now sleeping,
Guard it with care and with love.

I salute my old freinds in the corner,
I agree with all they have said-
And if the moment of truth comes tomorrow,
I'll be free, or By God, I'll be dead.

Thanks for posting that. That's a great poem.

I'm afraid national pride and love of country is fading fast. It's partly due to the attitudes of the younger generations but the corruption of our elected officials and the steady erosion of our freedoms plays a big part in it. Why should young people want to fight and die for our country when it's only a shell of what it used to be?
