There used to be a column with that title in one of the gun rags but I haven't seen it in a while.Anyway - Cousin is a cop in my hometown. Picked up a guy suspected as the thief in a series of break-ins. Guy refused to talk until my cousin told him, "Listen, man, you might as well tell us. We got your fingerprints all over the place." The guy gets all self-righteous and announces, "No way you got my prints! I was wearing gloves." Said gentleman is currently a guest of the county.

Nobody said crooks were smart. If they were they'd get an honest job and make more money in the long run.

I just have to tell this one. True story. Friend of mine owns a pawn shop. Couple months ago someone drove a car thru the front of the building, and of all things stole a car stereo with a cd changer, and a pair of speakers to go with it. They never caught the guy. Last week, this girl comes in with a car stereo and cd changer to pawn. She said shes trying to raise money for her boyfriend whos in jail. When my friend looks at the piece, he sees not only does it have his price tag that was on it to begin with, but also his inventory tag with the pawn shops name on it. Of course, he calls the police.

Had a break-in at the business where I work. Had the glass repaired and shortly after that I saw a lady in the parking lot by the window that had been broken looking all over the ground. I went out and grilled her about what she was looking for! (Her boyfriends watch that he had lost last night)Held her until the police could get there. Got to go to court to testify shortly afterwords....It probably was a Stolen ROLLEX.......

This one is my all time favorite. This WAS published in that "Dumb Crooks" column I mentioned. This was back during the '79 gas crunch. Guy's sleeping in his RV. Hears noises and looks outside. Dumb crook is on the ground retching and heaving, a length of hose beside him and an empty gas can. Seems the genius wanted to siphon some gas but ended up sticking the hose in the tank that held the "waste water".

From the Wichita Eagle newspaper December 26th. by Bob Getz "To perhaps the world's two dumbest sets of criminals, as both used stolen credit cards to purchase furniture, and asked to have everthing delivered to their homes. Police, posing as delivery men, made prompt arrests".

Dumb Crook and Dumber PoliceAlabaster, Alabama 1999We had a breakin at our office in the earlier morning hours one weekday. The best that we can say, the events happened as close to what will be stated below. The crook had already stole several items in the parking lot and storage room when he decided to enter the office building. He broke out a large glass and waited to see if the alarm was active. After no alarm he felt it was safe to enter. We left no lights on in the office building and the room he entered into was our training classroom. That room was full of long tables and very dark. Still no alarm so he must have felt secure. As he opened the door to the hall at the interior of the office, a wall mounted motion sensor set off the alarm (very loud on the inside as well as outside of office). He must have panicked, because we saw numerous signs of where he ran into the wall, knocked over tables and chairs and had shoe prints on the carpet from the muddy area outside. He also hit the wrong window instead of the one he had entered through as evidenced by the finger prints on the wall and crushed blinds. In his rapid departure he left one key piece of evidence - His personal cell phone. As he left the area a cop responding to the call even saw his pickup truck leaving the industrial complex area. The police recovered the phone, but never even bothered to take finger prints. They checked the phone to see who it was registered to and we found out it was some low-life who was in the same field as our company. That explained why he wanted our very specific type of equipment. They called his residence and he lived with his grandmother who said he was in bed that evening. The police dept. never sent out a warrant, only had an investigator call this person to get his side of the story. The DA refused to prosecute this person or even follow up.I am a strong proponent of LEO's however this left a bad taste in our mouths. No follow ups were ever done on this case.Did I just expect too much?[This message has been edited by Trader Dave (edited 12-28-2001).]

What about the true story of the guy who pulls is old station wagon to the back of the little auto parts store, loads up about 50 new batteries. He jumps in and his car won`t start...dead battery.I suppose it never crossed his mind that he could have swapped out the battery for one of his 50 new ones.I forget if he was drunk, and fell asleep in the car,and was arrested in the morning..or if he went home, leaving his car and police tracked him to his house,by running his tag,..but what`s the difference,if you`re ate up with the *??.218

SimonsbThat might could happen. I live in Shelby county and even go up to Blount county (Oneonta) to see Wife's grandmother. I just burned up a few hundred rounds of 223 and 40 cal yesterday. Even went catfish fishing with my AR pistol. One shot and they sure stopped coming to the surface to feed - LOL.
