We just lost another 70 or so jobs due to a plant closing and moving to Mexico. This is in S.W. Missouri. We've probably lost a couple hundred, to a thousand, jobs that will never come back. What's happening elsewhere in the U.S.? I've wondered how many other areas are seeing the same thing happen. It seems like it used to be that, even if you didn't have a good education you had a chance to get a good job in this country. Now it's either train professionally, or learn to say, "Would you like fries with that order?"

Maybe one day you will see Americans clamoring to get into mexico to work, I wander if they will give us free medical treatment?

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

Right! Maybe the Mexican schools will teach our kids their lessons in English too.

No medical care either! If you cross the border, don't get into any accidents and definitely don't get hurt. Several years ago, a bunch of guys from Orange County took a jeep across the border. They crashed (I don't believe they were driving drunk or recklessly) and two of the men were seriously injured, yet Mexican officials refused to give medical treatment unless the families coughed up a huge sum of money. They couldn't pull it together fast enough. One of the men, if I remember correctly, died as a result. Rule of thumb for crossing the border . . . don't do it. Ten cent chicklets, donkey shows and stomach viruses ain't worth it. The cops will pull you over and shake you down for money, threatening to throw you in jail if you don't comply. Talk about a cesspool.

This country isn't far away from what you just described.

I wasn't going to bring it up, but, if they save so much money going south, how come prices never come down?

it isnt about lowering prices, its so the execs. can continue to get large increases in their compensation, and the share-holders can continue to get dividends, without "raising" prices. we should own mexico anyway as we defeated them at least twice. we could have a state bigger than alaska or texas. we could also have that mexican oil tacos and enchiladas to say nothing of the silver mines. Uh, Carl, by the logic of "right of conquest," arguably we should also 'own' parts of Japan, Germany, Spain and Great Britain, among others. Rather suspect we'd be history ourselves if we'd so attempted over the past 200 years.

Besides, think of this - as a result of our wars with Mexico, we acquired California (among other real estate). Personally, I'd love to give that back along with most of the current residents!

Hell, the jobs are gonna have to come back here. There are more wetbacks in the US than down there. And the infestation is getting worse every day.

ICONOCAST: YOU ARE RIGHT TO A DEGREE. WE DID TAKE PART OF SPAIN,GREAT BRITAIN AND MEXICO THOUGH. WE GOT THE PHILLIPINES,CUBA AND SEVERAL OTHER CARIBIAN ISLAND FROM THEM. WE GOT THE BIGEST PART OF CALIFORNIA AND TEXAS FROM MEXICO. WE GOT THE UNITED STATES[COLONIES] FROM GREAT BRITAIN. I DONT KNOW OR REMEMBER WHERE WE GOT HAWAEI,GUAM,MARSHALL ISLAND,FROM BUT I BELIEVE SOME OF THIS WAS FROM JAPAN. I DO KNOW JAPAN OCCUPIED THE MARSHALL IS. AND GUAM BEFORE THEY WERE LIBERATED IN WW2. WE ALSO STOLE[PUCHASED FOR 1,000,000]ALASKA FROM RUSSIA. WHY WOULD WE BE HISTORY IF WE TOOK OVER THE TERRITORIES WE DEFEATED IF WE SET UP A DEMOCRATIC FORM OF GOVERNMENT?? I AGREE IT WOULD BE IMORAL TO JUST GO OUT LIKE CEASER AND DEFEAT SOMEONE TO TAKE OVER THERE COUNTRY,HOWEVER WE DIDNT START THESE WARS WE JUST ENDED THEM BY DEFEATING THE OTHER COUNTRIES. SORRY FOR THE SHOUTING, I DIDNT REALIZE I HAD THE CAPS LOCK ON. CARL

Carl, my response was something of a simplification. We 'stole' the Louisana Purchase for even less per acre than Seward's Icebox, took the origianl colonies + some from Britain in the War of Independence, bought Florida, the Gadsden Purchase, Virgin Islands, annexed Hawaii (if I recall correctly), etc. But I thought your post meant something like we should have taken over all the territory of a defeated power, which was what I objected to. We have tried over the years to empower defeated nations to implement democratic governments with varying degrees of sucess. I think the Moros were about the only group which rebelled against our stewardship. That obviously ignores the indigenous peoples of the 50 states who were pretty well decimated by both good & bad intentions. Didn't mean to babble. Think we are pretty much on the same page. I read it one way & I suspect you writing it in another! Hell, no wonder the diplomats make such a hash of things . . . we speak the same language and come from the same culture and look what happened here!

iconoclast: dont worry i took no offense. i just wonder why we have to defeat so many countris, rebuild them and then have to fight and defeat them over and over again??we dont seem to do a very good job of making allies of the countries we "have" to defeat. they seem to take our reconstruction money grow strong then go back to war with us???? i am not sure if this is a political thing or it has its roots in religion or what causes it but doesnt seem right that we have to expend our resourses to fight the same enemy over and over.whatever it is it doesnt seem to be working very well on our behalf. i am probably a dreamer but wouldnt it be nice if all the countries in the world were allies and got along together and co-operated with one another instead of constantly bickering and threatening one another?? we could do so much for the people that are underprivalged and maybe jesus christ would even smile on us. thanks for letting rave on.
