A couple of things I installed on my truck today..

I put one of these Dee Zee tailgate assist shocks on my Silverado today. The thing works great. Normally when I'm carrying something in my hands I have to put it down to lower the tailgate on my truck or else the tailgate will crash down like a ton of brick. With this thing I can just pull the handle and let the tailgate fall and it slows to a stop at the bottom without a crash bang. About the easiest thing I've ever installed on my truck. Took about 15 minutes.

I found it on Amazon for $23.39 in case anyone is interested.

I also found a light bar that installs below the tail gate for sale on Amazon. They were so cheap in price I thought I'd give them a try. I didn't figure they'd work very good since they were only $17.99 but I was surprised.

They actually are very bright LED's that are molded into a flexible rubber and plastic strip which makes them water proof. They attach with 3M double sided tape that comes already applied and they plug into the outlet for trailer lights on my truck.

The running lights and brake lights work as do the turn signals which makes one half of the lights blink according to which way you're turning.

Instead of that tailgate assist thingy, I just got a Ford. The gate on it can tolerate being dropped.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

One of the first thing I did when I got my F150 was put the tailgate shock on it.
The Ford can take it but my wife not so much.

You can pull the handle on a Ford tailgate and nothing will happen, unless the guys pushing it stop.

Ford has heated tailgates so people's hands don't get frostbit in winter when they're pushing it.

We put one on the Dodge about a year ago. It was meant to help the girls with the free fall, dont want them hurting their back and it helps in lifting the heavy gates.

It also keeps small kids safe from catching the free falling tail gate in the face.

I wonder why they do not come from the factory with them on all brands.
Just smile and say nothing, let them guess how much you know.

I would rather push a Ford than drive a GM product.

Yep, I just read it to my five-year-old grandson, and ask him if he understood it, and he said yes and explained it to me. So even a five-year-old would understand it. Not to be rude Mr. Perfect, but just saying

    I like the light strip.

Well I added another item to my tailgate today. A stainless steel strip with SILVERADO cut out in it.

Got to do something to stay busy. This retirement thing is not all that easy. I spent a year doing pretty much nothing and that got boring so I started trying to stay busy doing something and now I'm running out of things to do. Last year I tried hiking and after about 6 months of that I was ready for a wheel chair. About killed my knees.

This year I've loaded up enough ammo for a small army. I spent enough money on more reloading equipment to equal the amount of money needed to supply me with factory ammo for the rest of my life. Whoever said reloading would save you money must have been trying to sell it to their wife. icon_rolleyes.gif

I've pressure washed the house, driveway, deck and everything else I can find outside. Every vehicle that needed maintenance has been serviced, washed and waxed. I've repaired lawn equipment that I put off doing for years. I rebuilt the carb on my trail bike and got it running. I put down 34 bags of mulch around my wife's flowers and scrubs yesterday and then mowed the yard and trimmed the hedges.

Looks like I'm going to have to go back to work. Never thought I'd say that or maybe I'll become a mule and start running drugs across the border.

At least I'm not in the hospital like I was in September on the verge of kicking the bucket. I guess looking at it that way just feeling good is pretty much good enough. Well I've talked myself into feeling pretty good about being board. Thanks for listening. [:)]

Anybody that puts one of the shocks on needs to make sure they DON'T tighten the lock nuts down real tight on the studs that holds the shocks on as it states in the directions. It will put the shock in a bind and when the tailgate is opened or closed it can break the ends off of the shock. I read the reviews and several people were complaining that theirs broke and I'm sure they torqued those nuts down so tight there was no way the tailgate could open or close with breaking the ends off.

Also the directions plainly state to put the small washer on the top stud and I've read people complaining that the bottom stud nut is rubbing against the body which is because they put the washer under the nut that causes it to stick out. It's amazing how many people will not read the directions on equipment and then complain like it's the products fault.

If I showed up to work with all that pimp crap on my truck, they'd laugh me off the railroad.

Of course, a Chevy don't know the way to work.

Generally men will laugh at anybody they're not afraid of so it wouldn't matter where you went they're going to laugh at you.

Is that you on the left with your boys at the RR? [:D][:D]

HAHA I think the tailgate on my Ford is plastic. It has an electric lock, huge PITA to get used too. I have to keep reminding myself to hit the door unlock button to open the dam thing!

My Toyota Tundra has the factory shock.(not optional)AND I'm a Ford, GM guy, but that damn Jap Tundra just keeps on going like the energizer bunny. When that damn Jap rig Tundra goes down it will get a good cursing and bad mouthing that I've been saving up for few years.[;)]

My old ford truck from the 60's and 70's have tailgates are very heavy and probably their tailgates weigh more than the whole bed on the newer vec's. Doubt if one of those little shocks would slow them old model tailgates.

I still have my old 02 7.3 PS 6 speed hand shaker sitting around. It only has 32k on the ticker. The tailgate is super heavy as I thought about adding the shock to the tailgate, but I remove the tailgate when I use the gooseneck ball hoockup and the shock would make removing the tailgate pretty unhandy.

My '15 has that assist from the factory. It's a spring rather under the bed rather than a shock I assume, because it assists in both opening and closing the tailgate.
It's too late for me, save yourself.

I can't get out in it without somebody coming up to me and wanting me to price it. I don't drive it much unless I pulling a trailer and it sits in the garage otherwise. I wish it had the double cab.
