Dropped my Harley today.

Second time in the 32 years I have owned it.

Pulled into the garage and went to put my left foot on the floor and the cuff on my pants leg caught on the foot peg. I couldn't free it as I slowly leaned over to the left and crashed to the floor.

I was right next to my parked truck and my head hit the passenger side door... hard. Surprised I don't have a concussion. I'll have to go back and check the door later for a dent. Probably has one.

Of course my leg was pinned beneath 650 pounds of FXE. I spent about one minute trying to extricate myself without doing further damage to the motorcycle. After 60 seconds of fruitless effort my attitude changed to "Get this bleeping thing off me!"

I twisted around and got my right foot on the sissy bar and pushed the bike enough to wiggle my trapped foot out from under the primary drive cover which had it mashed to the floor of the garage. Fortunately I have been lifting weights at the gym the past 6 weeks and I surprised myself by lifting the bike up onto its wheels without any real difficulty.

Damage to the Harley appears pretty minimal. No paint damage, no broken mirror or control levers, only the gear shift took a hit. It was bent in towards the engine. I used a small crowbar to tweak it back out and I got it about 80% there. It works OK and most people wouldn't notice the slight misalignment but later, when I am capable of calm reflection, I'll see if I can push it back all the way into proper position.

Damage to me also seems minor. Scraped my left elbow a bit, and I must of whacked the back of my hand on something as I have a marble-sized knot near the middle. Only hurts a little. No injury to the pinned leg or foot which really surprises me.

Oh, and no fluids leaked out. No gas, oil, brake fluid, nothing. Now that's amazing.

Like I said, 2nd time in 32 years. First time was when the bike was only a couple years old. car in front of me at a red light puked tranny fluid and the front tire hit the puddle at about 2 MPH and I lurched over sideways.

Glad your ok. Fortunately it didn't happen at speed.[8D]
Get a dresser, the bars will catch them before it can go all the way over. There's a technique to righting a motorcycle that involves turning your back to the seat, turning the bars toward you, and lifting with your knees. I've never had to try it, (always was someone to help) but I'm told a small man can accomplish it.

Knew an old man once who would ride his bike to the local bar across the street from our local hardware store, every day for happy hour. Well I was in the hardware store picking up some electrical supplies when I see the old man like clockwork leaving the bar 10 minutes after happy hour ended.

I was parked behind him and as I got in my van, he got on his bike, all seemed fine as we drove up the hill to the traffic light, he wasn't giving a hint of intoxication.

Then we get to the red light, and I watch as he comes to a complete stop, he never even made an effort to put his feet down, just rolled the bike to a complete stop, then rolled the bike over landing on his side as he was situated on top earlier. Couldn't belive my eyes.

Best part was when I rushed over to help him up, he still had a firm hold on the handle bars and with a straight face he gave me a "Where am I parked".

He's lucky he didn't die or hurt someone else, so I put him in my van and parked his bike and drove him safely to his girlfriends house.

Thought he learned his lesson but one week later at the same hardware store I watched as he pulled up, right on time, 5 minutes before happy hour. lol

The best thing about it happening in your garage is that no one saw it like they would have if you were in pinned under it at the McDonalds parking lot.

...When I had a Sportster, I dropped it the first week. The bandanna blew off of my head, so I did a U-turn and parked on the gravel shoulder. As I was walking back, it just slooowly leaned over as the kickstand sunk in the gravel. Just a broken turn signal, but I still felt like an idiot.

That's true. If no one saw it, it never really happened.[8D]

I dropped a brand new honda 919 the first time I pulled into my driveway...sigh

If it makes you feel better I dropped an 01 LS1 camaro on my chest...only thing that saved my life was my wife and a hung 3 ton jack, compressed my 15 in ch deep chest to under 8 inches.

I had a '90 FXRS. I was inching down a small incline on wet grass and grabbed the front brake just a little too hard.[:I][:I]

I lost several "cool points" as about 5 people saw me do it.

No injuries or damage.....except my pride.

...You live a charmed life. A friend I went all through school with got trapped under a trailer a couple years ago. He didn't make it. Jack stands and blocks are cheap insurance.

Ouch! Sorry to hear (read) it Doc, but better that than at 65! My beemer has fallen over once when it rolled off the kickstand on an imperceptable to me slope. Roll bars paid for themselves that day.

Dropped mine in my drive, Spun 180 in some mud, Lucky my Crash bars saved it.

Have come real close to dropping my old Katana cause my boot laces got caught on the foot peg. Lucky they were old laces and broke before I went down.

Real good video on how to lift a bike. Problem is there is a girl demonstrating and its kind of hard to concentrate on what they are saying.[:o)]

If you have rode much you well I seem to have something happen. I dropped my BMW a couple months ago right outside my garage. I had a bad habit of coasting to a stop and flipping down the kick stand. Just as I started to get off the bike I realized the kick stand and gone back up. I lowered it to the concrete backwards as I felt it go to far over after I had stepped off. No major damage, but sure made me unhappy.

Glad you are OK Doc. Almost laid mine down twice on seperate occasions at the same gas station. Son of a gun I have to tell you it happens so quick.

When I got to the concrete pad at the pumps it was like the front end was on ice,and started to skid sideways.

I knew then that I had used my money's worth out of the front tire.

Doesn't it say something in the owners manual about not wearing cuffed pants while operating?

Be glad you didn't get pinned under the pipes...nasty scar!

OH YES on the scars. I dumped my 305 scrambler trail bike and my pants were wet and it was INSTANT steaming the skin off. I peeled the skin off when i went home and it was a nasty burn !.
