NFL, locked-out officials agree to deal
Jay Glazer
The NFL and its locked-out officials agreed to terms on a new deal late Wednesday night which would put officials in place for this weekend's games - including Thursday night's game - sources close to the situation confirmed. Both the NFL and the officials' union later issued statements confirming the deal.
According to the sources, the final sticking point related to the much-discussed pension plan, but that stalemate finally ended.
The sides are currently working on paperwork according to sources and at least half of the 121 locked-out members must approve the new deal, but sources said that is expected to be a formality, with the vote coming Friday.
''Our officials will be back on the field starting tomorrow night'' for the Cleveland-Baltimore game, commissioner Roger Goodell said. ''We appreciate the commitment of the NFLRA in working through the issues to reach this important agreement.''
The agreement, which is an eight-year deal, culminated two long days of talks that included Goodell at the table. The deal must be ratified by 51 percent of the union's 121 members. They plan to vote Friday and Saturday in Dallas.

I said from the start that until a game was lost, or someone was hurt badly, that could be directly attributed to the dregs they were using, it would not be settled because the owners were still making money and did not care...after Monday night, they figured what happened to Green Bay could happen to them...they then "cared".
Goodell was insulting every fan by saying that everything was fine with the officiating, that one could "not see any difference between the replacements and the regular officials", idiot, just another of a 1,000 reasons I cant stand Goodell.
The replacements were from COMMUNITY Colleges, High School football & such, NO BIG College experience...WAY over their heads & it showed in every game, kinda like the guy in DC now.

Kidding right, obviously not a NFL fan, a lot of people are not.
60 some odd games have been played with the reject Officials...EVERY one of those games had 1) had numerous BAD non calls... 2) lasted for 20 to 30 minutes longer because of the extra disscussion among the dregs on calls...3) numerous BAD wrong calls...4) made MAJOR mistakes OTHER than bad/non calls in each of the 60 some odd games... 5) allowed the players in every game to take control of the game from a small degree to a big degree... 6) players knew they COULD and DID intimidate the rejects on calls.... 7) the final straw, cost the packers a game.
Of course there will be mistakes made by the regular Officials, they're human...but....NOT even a close comparison between them and the rejects.
The rejects had NO experience except Junior College & High School, JH Christ...they did not know the NFL rules, they could not keep up with the speed of the NFL game...[;)]
??
Being a professional usually does have its perks, money being just one.
..."Part time" is somewhat misleading, they're involved in their jobs thru out the entire year...the Officials have a 4-5 week training "camp" each year, hours required each week in meetings, hours each week involved in watching/breaking down calls on game film, tons of time thru the year keeping up with new/changing rules.
See, I have never cared what someone else makes, I love Capitalism.
I always figured I had the chance to do whatever I wanted...so if I wanted to have been an Official and draw their type of paycheck, I could have done that.
You left out that these guys are mostly Attorneys, Doctors are business owners...the payday from the NFL is not their main source of income...[:D]
quote:$173,000 for a part-time job. How will they survive the rest of the year?

Well, thank God for that. We have enough people on food stamps. [;)]
