Nerve Pain ?

edited October 2014 in General Discussion
When i had cancer they had to cut a nerve in my neck and then they repaired it.

I take 1200 mg of Gabapentin a day. 600 in the mourning and 600 when i go to bed. It works great. But after about a year it starts hurting again. It causes a really bad ear ache.

My ear is starting to hurt again and i was wondering if any other people have nerve pain and what do they take.

I will talk to my doctor about it in December but i dont think i can last that long though.

I have it in my left foot. I take Gabapentin 2400 mg a day, that is down from 3600. I had to stop the afternoon dose because it was making me real drowsy. Maybe they can increase the dose you take. Neuropathic pain can drive a person crazy. lol

3600mg a day is max. I take that dose (3600 of Gabapentin) along with Flexaril, Baclofen and Oxy and don't feel drowsy at all. I still have nerve pain after all of that, it just makes me not care. If it gets too bad I have Morphine as a back-up.

Considering how extensive your surgery was, chronic pain is likely something you will always need to deal with. You may want to consult with these folks:

Or, there may be a specialist closer to you.

Yea i take Gabapentin along with flexaril. I also take morphine and oxycodone. Its crazy but none of this medicine makes me sleepy.

I think Gabapentin is generic for Neuronton.

I have been to 2 pain clinics but i will look into this one. I will try green M&Ms if someone says they will work.

Its crazy i will have 3 or 4 good days and then some bad days. Then some real bad days its crazy.

I have some herniated discs in the neck. I've found that if I overdo any neck or arm exercises that I will suffer intense nerve pain that attacks me in the neck, under the shoulder blades, the shoulder, and down the left arm into the fingers. There are other areas of the body that suffer as well at times.

Simply put, if one fails to exercise frequently and intelligently, the easier it will become for them to seriously hurt themselves should they decide to start up an exercise program at an advanced age. Right now I am okay and without severe pain, but I have chosen to limit the type of exercises I do, the frequency, and the amount of motion I can get especially in my arms and neck. Should I overdo such exercises I'll suffer intense pain that could run for a month or more. When I do need to take medicine, I take Gabapentin, Vicodin, and Flexaril. I take as little Flexaril and Vicodin during these times as I possibly can. My doctor has given me permission to regulate the amount of each drug as long as it does not exceed certain amounts. Since I have "severely" limited my stretching exercises, I have been getting along w/o significant pain, and the only time I really suffer is due to exercising, or too much work, where stretching my arms and neck are concerned.

The VA had me taking 1200mg of Gabapentin four times a day for the nerve pain in my right leg.

I complained for months that it made me into a zombie. I flat out refused to reload while I was under the influence of this nasty drug.[xx(]

I now take Pregablin (which is generic Lyrica) twice a day. I feel I am back to normal with minimal pain.

That being said I will have to have back surgery next Monday to have a disc removed & replaced, and rods installed to help fuse my L3 & L4.

I will be down & out for up to eight weeks, my entire fall deer hunting season is shot in the *...[V]

Good luck on the surgery TS. So far I have been able to keep from having surgery, although I did have a couple of meetings with the surgeon I was going to use, I lucked out and started getting better.

I'm having trouble with nerve pain also,....a lot like kimi's but also in my back and legs.
I take no meds as of now, but was referred to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Have to be there early AM 10/8.

I am not a doctor. However that said, the "B" vitamins control the health and healing of the nerves. Walmart of all places has in the vitamin department, "Super B-Complex", stock number 78742 00993. Very cheap and over the counter. It has saved my butt for herpes, shingles and sciatica. Years ago a doctor put me onto the B vitamins when I came down with severe headaches caused by a depletion of B from my excessive drinking.

10.325 of percocet 8 times a day for five years. The only thing that will help with my back and allow me to continue to work. I know it is killing my liver but so far the blood work has shown no affect. I take milk thistle to counter act the narcotics. Ain't life grand[;)][xx(]

I have a rather nasty case of Fibromialgia, the Doc's have tried several pills to help out but all of them had serious side effects, Gabapenten put me into a rage, Lyrica gave me a dry cough so bad that I couldn't breath afterward, I passed out once because of it. Only one thing has worked with no side effects, that is CBD oil that I vaporize, it will take a pain level of 8 down to a 4 within half a hour, none of the other pills like Norco, vico's or oxy would do that.

Gabapentin is the WORST drug on the market. It cost me a full time job and a part time job. I have MS and my neurologist kept proscribing more and more and more. My family doctor Tried me on Norco 5 MG and threw away the garbageapentin. If it helps you WONDERFUL I wish you all the best. That crap and I don't work or play well with others.
That drug was designed for seizures. I don't agree with off label experiments on me. They proscribe that crap because of the current trend of not giving codeine as per current govt fads of letting you live in pain so you will suicide to escape intractable pain. That way they get your estate in taxes sooner.
Just what America needs is more govt intrusion between you and your doc.
