Just picked this up today........very nice, so far. Bore is a bit dark, but what do you want for $50? :)

These rifles are normally $109.99, so I'm happy.

It does have a *small* amount of corrosion (I think) in the barrel. Anyone have any good ideas on how to remove this? I remember seeing a thread many moons ago but can't find it now.

Can't wait to go shoot this! It is the Hungarian version, made in 1953.

Anyone have any advise/hints/pointers on these rifles?

Merc

NO! You may not have my guns! Now go crawl back into your hole!

Strip and clean it using any good gun solvent to brush the bore as
clean as possible. Dry the bore. Shoot the gun a few times and clean it again. After a few cycles of this, you may be surprised at how good the bore actually is!

Don't know if I got a good deal or not but, bought one a year ago for $180.00. Was still wrapped, new condition, matching numbers (of course), never fired with bayonnet. beautiful rifle and fun to shoot, but man what a kick it has with that steel buttplate!!!

Just so you guys know, a month or so ago you could have been buying these guns brand new in the wrap for 70 dollars from Aim surplus. Right now, you can buy them good to very good for 50 from Southern Ohio.

I bought one that I would say was in Very Good+ today... The (language that offends Nunn) NICS got delayed though.

Where is a good place to get clips for them?

There was a show a few months ago on the Discovery Channel. The game wardens were in Siberia tagging the Siberian tiger. This is a big tiger, it looks like a big Indian tiger to me. Well they had radio tagged a female and about four wardens had tracked her to her den at night with a radio tracker thing. When they got to the den the mother was out hunting, they could tell from that antenna thing that she was about a mile away. One guy crawled into the den to catch the cub. It was a little cave maybe 10 feet deep. They were going to tag the cub. One guy had the antenna thing and it was beeping as the mother moved around. They could tell she was returning to the den. One guy stood guard with a M44. Man you gotta love wildlife, and you got some guts to be willing to take on a tiger at night with a M44. That thing was beeping faster and faster as the female got closer. Finally they got the cub tagged and got the hell out. Anyway, if the M44 is good enough for those Russian wardens I guess it is good enough for us to shoot whitetails with, or to have fun at the range.

ps Bolt action, 5 in the magazine, widely used and manufactured communist bloc carbine from late 40s and 50s. Mosin Nagant action. Lots of the Chinese in Korean war used them. Lots of milsurp ammo available in "spam cans" of 440 rounds for 10 cents a shot or so. You can get clips from tapco.
