Taurus m85 range report.

Just bought a new Taurus model 85 .38 snubbie 5 shot at the Des Moines show yesterday. Bluing is done very nicely with a deep polish to it. Action is timed out right with little play in the cylinder. Rubber grips (I think they're Houges) fit my hand great with the pinky finger wrapping somewhat around the bottom flat part of the grip frame. Best part is the trigger pull in both single/double action. No creep, crisp letoff, and the pull through double action is smooth with just a bit of stacking about halfway. Accuracy-wise it hits right at point of aim at about 10 yards. From a rest on the top of the car I put 15 rounds into just under two inches. Recoil is not bad at all, about average for this kind of gun. I was using Winchester 158 grn lead round nose factory loads. I put 50 rounds through it, and ejection was positive with one cylinder starting to stick after 30 rounds or so. The case would get about 3/4 the way out then I'd have to use my fingers. I'll shoot some different loads and see where the POI is and if there's any change in the grouping. This is turning out to be a great little gun for either carry or something wifey can use. I'd definately recommend one based on the example I got. I looked at three others at diferent tables and they all had the same trigger feel and action timing.

Politicians, like diapers, should be changed often and for the same reason.

    pup,

Thanks for taking the time to write that up. I am strongly considering getting a M85 in stainless and your observations have helped a gret deal.

    Pup,
I have a blued 85 in hammerless DAO with the factory wood grips.
It is a pretty little gun and even in the DAO model, it shoots like a champ! If I had my choice I wouldn't go hammerless but the gun was a gift so what ya gonna do. I gave the gun to my wife but she doesn't like the recoil, so she latched onto my Ruger stainless GP100 and says that will do just fine.
    Thanks for the report

    My wife?.........Sure!My dog?..........Maybe!MY GUNS??........NEVER!!!
