Beating the dead horse
Sawz

Ive been watching this debate of .223 for a while. and cant sit out anymore specially with the links gj sent us to. And my perspective for what ever its worth, from someone who works with tools every day (as a carpenter)is this. I own lots of tools.Guns are tools . I own small saws for the small jobs that big saws would tear em up I own big saws for jobs that small saws would burn out on. Could I use the small saw to do the big job? yes it would get the job done maybe even give me braggin rights. did it abuse my saw yes. maybe even the same as loadin those hot loads to get extra velocity, flatter trajetory, and more distance, so what? could do the same thing with a bigger gun and medium loads. 1000yds .223 sure why not? Whats the kill stats on 1000 yds, some crawl in the hole and suffer for a few hours?or are they vapor? Reminds me of the kid next door squealing his tires all the way down the road at 1 in the morning. Is someone misusing tools here? sounds like it to me. those of us in the trade when we find out the fellows that work with us abuse tools dont get to use our tools and are looked on with disdain. Now that im back from that website and have pulled off my waders, someone please wipe up the spilled Testosterone ...

I could conceivably drive a nail into a board with my shoe.
I could conceivably drive a nail into a board with a jackhammer.
But since the quality would suffer both ways, I use the proper tool, a regular claw hammer, instead.
Welcome to the board, btw.

There seem to be two choices: collect a lot of stars.........or have a life!
Mule deer buck, quartering towards me in thick timber on the north side of the hill. I held just inside of his on-side shoulder about 1/2 way up the brisket and fired. The buck snuck away through the timber, I couldn't believe I'd missed, but I followed him in the scope for about 100 yards through the timber waiting for an un-obstructed shot at his vitals. He stopped in a small opening and as I was squeezing the trigger, his legs started to go and he piled up. While field dressing the buck I found the entrance wound exactly where it should be, but no exit wound. I discovered that the bullet had blown up on impact and, aside from the jacket, had scattered through the deer's body cavity in pieces about the size of #6 shot.
The caliber: 7 rem. mag
The bullet: 175 gr. rem. core-lokt
My point: I'm sure glad that was NOT a 55 gr. pill!!
That load has worked perfectly on dozens of animals before and since, but it only takes one failure to make you a true believer in a bigger hole at the muzzle!
Just my humble opinion.
P.S. OOPs! now that I've read the whole thread I see we were beating a different dead horse. Sorry!
