IRS Refunds for Slavery?

NOTPARSNOTPARS Member Posts: 2,081 ✭✭✭✭✭

I only caught the tail end of this on television, and maybe its already been addressed here, but, I'll ask again. Is there any truth to the story that a significant number of Black Americans filed IRS tax returns making up a category requesting a refund for slavery, or status of long deceased relatives, and then actually received the money? Tell me this can't be true.

Yup, it's true. The story I heard was that some con man had a scam going where he convinced a lot of blacks around the country that such a "slavery refund" actually existed and for a two hundred dollar each fee he would help them apply. The unsuspecting (or claim to be unsuspecting) people then applied for the non-existant "slavery refund" on their 2000 tax filings. And believe it or not, the super vigilant, always efficient IRS clerks actually paid a bunch of these claims. Now the IRS is scrambling, trying to get the money back.

I'm from the government, and I'm here to help you.

Just because it is "in the news" does NOT mean that it isn't an urban legend. Most good urban legends start out in the news anyway......

I'm not convinced, personally. Ever try to get money out of the IRS? Doesn't happen easily, ESPECIALLY $43,000!!!! (as quoted in that "news story")

As usual Lowrider got it right. Not urban Legend. The IRS sent out over $600,000 on this scam.

Well, thats what I get for watching the science channel instead of CNN
The legand part is that their is a refund / credit due
The sad part is that their are idiots that fall for the scam

I'm still wondering about the guy (Irvin Schiff) that Hannity & Colmes had on the program last night.

He hadn't paid personal income taxes since 1973, according to him, seems he owns a corporation, draws a salary.

They kept interrupting him so much he never stated his point.

Anyhow I wish they would have let the man speak.

Rossitti from the IRS verified that they did indeed pay out over $30 million.......sigh.

The GOOD THING is that they could have possibly paid out over $2 BILLION, but caught that in time. So less than 1% is pretty decent, imo.

He also said that the IRS employees had nothing to do with it.

This "reparations" crap is a sham, unless you are a living slave!

Oh......the "Whitey" thing is what I call poor white trash......always have, always will. I love how they complain they can't get a job because of the "(insert whatever minority here)" yet don't have any education, skills, training, OR motivation to get skills! I can't tell you how many times I've heard some hill-billy complain......yet doesn't do anything about it. (Covers a LOT of my family!) Heheheh.....

    Gentlemen,

Thanks, I guess I have my work cut out for me running this down. It may have been all over the news but they didn't seem to make that big of deal about it (liberal bias?). Anyway, I wasn't trying to start an argument, I wanted to verify this story before I passed it on. I'll check with NewsMax (stay away from their culture and society forum if you are anywhere near a conservative...and heterosexual...).

    Hey Turbo,

Are you still on the NewsMax forum? I got tired of all the leftist "sock puppets" and bailed. I might go back in May for a sneak attack. The Leftist and homosexual trolls followed me everywhere I went to mess with my posts and it got old. But I may sneak up on them in a couple of weeks. I just have to think of the right topic...hmmmmmmmmm.

P.S. If I posted the above statement, they would go nuts.

Well, I just checked the NewsMax forum as advised, and yep, the story is there and it even comes from the Washington Post with names and interviews. Looks as if this has been going on for 2 years. However, no mention was made of efforts to get OUR money back!

Gruntled, I conceed, you are quite correct that the political party name was National Socialist. What that party espoused was fascism. If it walks like a duck...
