never blew one up but I locked one up tighter than a drum once. slight overcharge and first shot after getting powder burns in the face I knew I goofed. Never use someone elses equipment without first getting to know ho to use it! Bolt action rem, cant get the bolt out of it, its stuck.

Not me, but I saw a guy walking around a gunshow with an FMJ Flare Gun he tried to shoot an Aquila short 12 gauge round in. The plastic barrel was, of course, fragments. He couldn't find a replacement, and I doubt anyone would have sold him one if they had it.

Shooting skeet down at the farm, went to shoot a double. On the second one, the gun "poofed" and blew smoke in my face. Shooting factory ammo in a factory gun.Receiver blew up, or should I say "out".Widen the receiver about a quarter inch. Called the gun manufacturer who said "not involed, the guns out of warranty (two year) Called the ammo manufacturer who said send us the shells, we want to see them, and will do something to fix the problem. Store who sold me the case of shells told me to give the gun people another chance. Told me to call their legal dept.Took it to the authorized service center to be unloaded, they sent it to the manufacturer who promptly said "it's out of (2 yr) warranty. Plus the gun has been reblued. I promptly told them that blueing was to protect the metal, kind of like keeping it cleaned and oiled. They said they are returning my gun, and a month later, it still has not been shipped. Notice I said shipped, and not received. They still have it. The ammo is the reason it blew, they say. I think they are full of it. Had it been an overcharged, the 2.75" field load would have blown the 3" chamber, not the receiver. Bottom line, the gun fired before going to full battery. Either the bolt didn't lock, or it fired the shell before it had it closed. I intentionally left out the names of the concerned parties, while being Major Companies in their fields, don't need bad advertisement from me. And won't get it as long somebody determines who is at fault and replaces the gun (and maybe the ammo, since it is all one lot #) Failure to do that will unleash a major advertising plan already being mapped out, at the advise of legal council. Can't force them to stand behind their guns, but can make sure they don't sell anymore without people knowing they don't stand behind them. Just glad nobody was hurt seriously.

I had a Winchester SxS 12ga explode on me 33 years ago with proper factory ammo while shooting birds with my father. Grabbed the gun out of the closet, got into the field and loaded, blew on the first shot. The right barrel above the forearm blew out about a 1"x4" section along the lenght of the barrel taking a piece of my left index finger with it. Our local country doctor saved my finger which is functional but no feeling in it - the cutting of powder burnt skin without pain killers was a real treat for an eleven year old to experience. Needless to say before I shoot any gun, starting the day or between reloads, the barrel gets a visual check for obstructions. What caused the gun to explode? We never knew for certain except for the fact that I never checked the barrel before loading it.

I saw a barrel blown to smitherines from an obstruction. It looked almost frayed at the end.

Took a cheap 25 ACP trade at my dad's gunshop. He was hot and told me he didn't resell those kind of guns. He made me eat the trade price and said "now it yours, do what you want with it". I kept it for a couple of weeks, then decided to carry it to the range with me. About half way through a box of low velocity ammo, KA-BOOM! All I saw was stuff flying everywhere. Then I felt the slide slam into the right side of my face, just under the eye. Big bruse, deep cut, lots of pain, and a unique attitude adjustment. I instantly understood that my father was much smarter than I had ever realized.

Good friend and LEO in Florida went out to shoot his brand new Sig one day and the slide came directly back between his eyes. Put him in the hospital for a week. Sig took care of his medical expenses and gave him some dough thanks to the lawyers, but he was reluctant to let them replace the gun. I wonder why? Had to be a fluke cause none of my Sigs ever did that and I think they are a reliable piece.

Never had one explode, but fixed one up that I thought might blow up. After fixing it, I was afraid to shoot it.I put it in a vise, tied a string around the trigger, pointed it in a mound of dirt, stood behind a barn, and pulled the string. Kaboom!!! Went off like a charm. Did it a few more times, and since then, I have shot the gun a couple of 100 times. Has not blown up yet.

I saw a Ruger vaquero 44 mag blow up and a S&W 629 Classic Dx. The S&W sounded like an incoming round when it went off. I blame it on reloads because the same guy owned both of them but he swears by his formula and says he has been shooting those loads in his other 29's for years with no problems.

Didn't blow up, but sure froze the bolt! Shooting reloads my Dad made up in an 03-A3, lead bullets with a pinch of pistol powder, must have been a double charge. Bolt WOULD NOT open, had to pry it up with a crowbar. Tied gun to a tree, loaded up a round two grains over the listed max load, string on the trigger. Worked fine, looked fine, went back to shooting it like always.

I have seen a Glock and a Grendel blow up. Actually what happens is they expand the barrel so that it welds itself to the slide and puts the gun out of action permanently.Glock ate the first one and Federal ate the second one.Buy good stuff.

I saw an army buddy, blow his thumb off, when he discharged a 12 ga sawed off shotgun, as he cleared his weapons while entering base at Zion, 1st Inf Div., in Viet Nam. I thought a land mine had gone off, turned out he purchased it from another GI, that had left for home, a few days earlier.Guys in our unit, use to carry, an assortment of fireamrs, Thompsons, AK's, pistols, you name em, they were available, cheap.
