What's goin' on....some thoughts from an average citizen

Its been a couple of weeks now, and, nothing much has been going on, at least as to what we're told.I mean, no morters, no cruise missels, no bomb runs, etc. I'm sure its a good thing that grown-up cool heads of state are carefully weighing things out and minutely sifting the sands of choice and commitment.A lotta people though, way down deep from their primordal roots, just feel like some shootin' oughta be done,....somewhere.I guess I gotta confess, I'm included in that shallow thinking bunch,...after all,...we're the guys that, the guys who make "movies for guys that like movies",...make those movies for. (If ya followed that)I think you'll agree that the last few days have seen a bit of calmness set in. Hot rage dropped a few points, wild war-making statements down a bit, cooler political planning underway.And,...that's all good, I do have confidence in our present leaders, but,....I hope they are also thinking and holding behind their backs, some stuff along some real hard lines.Just suppose, and I hope God forbids it,...that more crap happens. A water supply gets poisoned...more rhetoric and carefull planning. A disaster at a crowded football game...still more rhetoric and carefull planning. Widespread sickness and death in a large city...an explosion...I hope we don't simply wring our hands and desperately try to futally think of well planned ways to thwart this stuff.Somebody better be knowing that, maybe, the only thing to quell this is to be downright NASTY and DIRTY,...to somebody, with the impressive catchwords...atomic, hydrogen, neutron.Lord, I hope our guys can stave off and stop anything else, and we can continue with a well-planned, well-thought out responce that is politically okie-dokie with all.If we have to reply like an enraged animal with its leg in a trap,....fill in the rest yourself.Sorry it took so long, I don't post much lately, but I felt like sayin' this.Bob

History reminds us that it took several months of planning before Doolittle bombed Tokyo....and several months of preparation before the U.S. began attacking Sadam....both situations required getting our ducks in a row before the appropriate response came.

we should go over there, clean house, and set up a nice lil democracy!! get eveyone over there civilized....sound sketchy? maybe until the people start living the way we live and love it..First steps first though, get rid of the thailband...i agree with you bob, i think we need to act soon, bush approched this with a cool head, my thoughts are to flush our country out of any suspected terorists first, then move over seas..there not hurting us as much over there!! so to mr.bush, act fast and throw some punches, fight dirty, not with our hands tied in diplomatic relations, and get our troops home.

The longer we wait to strike, the more force the peace crowd will muster as the sting of 09/11 wears off and the media diverts the sheeple's attention elsewhere. Before 09/11, every picture from mainstream media sought to capture the most unflattering pics of Bush possible; after it, there were pics of him holding his chin high, looking galant & tough, making bold statements and the media (except for ABC) going "hoo-rah". Now, they are starting to ease back in the stupid-looking pics.We should have hit 'em last week, but world opinion might have faulted us for not enough "information gathering". With Saudi no longer recognizing the Taliban, we ought to hit 'em now. The longer we wait, the more support the effort will lose here at home.

What really disturbs me is the fact that the majority of the American TV News-watching public doesn't have a clue about these mass-media brainwashing techniques, and wouldn't believe you if you told them.I used to participate in a guitar-related forum. Every time a discussion would get political and someone would make a remark about government abuse ala Ruby Ridge or Waco or the like, several other jokers would say things like, "Oh yeah, I suppose you have black helicopters circling your house too."Some sorry day these people are going to pull off their blinders and wonder what the hell happened. Wonder why the public didn't see this coming. Some of us did.

Read the above posts, and agree. Careful, timely, well thought-out planning is the thing.I just hope they let us alone long enough to do it....in other words, don't hurt us no more. The battleground, arena, trouble spot,... should be somewhere else,..(hopefully)But, what if its not???Bob

I don't think they are doing nothing, they have to find the enemy before they can attack him.At home they've got a good number of suspected terrorists in custody. I just hope they are not just jerking people in with out enough evidence in hopes no one will notice when they are let go.They arrested four men close to where I live yesterday on charges relating to fraud relating to commercial drivers licenses allowing them to carry hazardous materials. These are the people I would like to see behind bars first, they are an immediate threat and every arrest makes terrorists planning less effective.

Ya'll just havta 'scuse me for blowin' on my own post, I know it prolly ain't 'portant 'nough ta shove it to the top again, but, I just read a columnist's article in the editorial section. I give it good attention, but,.. want to bore you with only the last paragraph. I'll do that, then shut up."The "peace groups" in Union Square may be singing, "All we are saying is give peace a chance," but the majority of Americans believe we have had enough of that attitude and it's time to give war a chance so the next generation might enjoy the peace we have just lost."Bob[This message has been edited by gunboob (edited 09-27-2001).]

A brutal attack requires an immediate, brutal response. The rhetoric, flag waving, negociation(sp?), "requests" for use of air space & air bases, staging, planning and generally talking to much needs to stop. We either put up or shut up it's as simple as that.

Patience is a virtue. One of the primary reasons it's taking so long to retaliate is to buy us enough time at home to get as many terrorist cells as possible and prepare for the inevitable counter-attacks that will come. 1. Hit them hard and accurately to maintain world support. 2. Minimize their response. It's a good move by Bush.

GunboobI just read your response to my Josey post and see that you and are of the same mind on that one. I told Bush that he was a weak-willy when he contacted me a campaign contribution request ,but sent him all I could afford thinking that I had dam well rather have a compasionate conservative than 4 more years of unhiden comunism. Just imagine what would have happened if this had happened while Reagan was in office. I can tell you for sure there would be a lot of American chests swelled with pride by now.

I agree with lowrider..this was made possible,in my opinion,by our "politically correct" open door policy and our belief that we had enough defences in place.I do not want to stop immigration,as that is what built this great nation, but some screening would help.Unless we are American Indian descent, all of us can say our kin,or ourselves, came here from somewhere else.I am just an average person,a veteran, and work at an Army base as a civilian helicopter mechanic.I am doing my part and my son,who was in Army basic training at the time of the attack, will be doing his.I am proud of his dicision to enlist and will hope and pray for his safety and his return when his duty is done. God Bless America and may his hand guide all our efforts to eradicate these fanatics both here and abroad.

Rodgerglide -One small nit to pick. You make an exception for Amerinds; their ancestors came from someplace else, too, just a mite earlier than the rest of ours did! Later,.280 freak

Sorry .280Freak,my thoughts lately have been affected by stress, you know, that emotion you have when you want to eradicate someone who won't stand up long enough to get a bead on?My only regret is that I am too old now to re-up and stand alongside my son.

Whatever's got happen, better start happen soon; before their Holy month of prayer which begins on Nov 17.After that they all will be sitting ducks (or maybe prostrated ducks, depends how we catch them) and we, will be then called Terrorists. When one stops to think why these countries are so backwards, think about it, they gather 5 times daily for prayer (thats 5 times during 12 hours, 6am-6pm, it's got to take at least 2 hours each prayer meeting, by the time you travel their and find your spot, set up, phsych yourself up, pray, and say your hello's and goodby's to your buddy's) that leaves 2 hours to work, eat meals, demonstrate, use the bathroom. Whew!! what a day , who can find time to work. No wonder the rest of the family has to haul water, and scrounge for food.
