Most of them work pretty well. If you have a fabricator near you that builds trailers, check them out. You could also go to wally world, an RV dealre/repair business, etc.

All of them work fine some have more sensitivity for preloading the trailer brakes. You can also choose one based on how easy it is to use in your truck.

Reliable trailer brake function went south when they quit using hydraulic activated brake controllers. I haven't found an electric one yet that works as well as the old Tekonsha in my 77 Chevy.

+1 On the Prodigy by Tekonsha. Every camper I know use one and I have not heard any complaints..

I have a Reese controler in my 2005 F-250 I use with my 18' car trailer. The Reese has dual setting controls, the first one sets how quick the brakes come on and the second sets the brake power. Whoever says the full electric brakes dont work well needs to try this setup, I can set those brakes that when loaded normal brake pressure will set you thru the windshield or I can back them off by simply sliding the adjustment to where braking with a load you never know the trailer is behind you, of course when running empty you darn near need to turn them off because the trailer brakes will lock up. Having used to old style that is tied into the actual brake line and now using this Reese on a truck prewired for such applications I must say the setup I have now works 10Xs better, more control and no moving parts in the unit to go bad.

Like Tom. I have a Prodigy controller on my '07 Silverado. Set-up was easy, fully adjustable, couldn't ask for more.
It's too late for me, save yourself.

I like the prodigy. i have the harness that connects to my truck but it has wires to splice into the brake controller. Is it easier to splice the wiresin or spend the extra $9. for the specific harness?

Make sure you get the wires right the first time. If you don't the controller can be fried when you try it out. I would use the harness. Wire color on the controller may not match wire color on the harness. Go on line and find out what colors match the controller from the harness or the harness should be marked to what wire goes to the controller. Controller should also be marked. If the controller does not work check your electrical box on the tow vehicle , It may not have the appropriate fuses installed. Lots of trucks are left empty in the electrical box for fuses.
