A STORY ON BIKERS

Being that I live in Florida, in 20 yrs I have not missed a bike week in DATONA, or the BIKETOBERFEST there either.

A couple years ago I was standing on the corner of Atlantic and Main Street, Thats the place where it is all happening. Those of you that have been there Know what I am talking about.

I was all dressed out in my leathers, had grown a scraggley beard, And was just watching the bikes going up and down the street, when I overheard a couple standing nearby.

The couple were speaking with an acute British Accent, and the lady was telling her husband,"I would like to get some T-shirts from each of the BARS, Froggies, Boothill, ETC, but I am afraid of all these rough looking people.

I couldnt contain myself, so went over to them and told them , If you want some shirts, follow me. We went to every bar on Main Street, where they purchased all the shirts they wanted, They bought me several cokes, as I dont drink anything stronger, and bought me lunch.

We spent most of the day together, and as they were getting ready to leave, the lady told me," I dont beleive this, I got more RESPECT from all these crude, loud, bikers, than I ever could have expected in any regular Bar that I have been in."

This made me feel good.

It is hard for some people to get passed the rough image.Escpeially foreigners with the stories of the big bad American bikers. The image the Hells Angels had put on all Harley riders is still hard to shake even today some people see a a man with a Harley ad automatically assume he is in a Biker Gang. Most bikers I have met are extremely friendly escpecially Harley riders.I have had a few give me a little good natured ribbing about my V-MAX and didnt get too pissed when I retorted.Even had a few want too drag. But I have only met a couple I would say had nasty attitudes for the most part they are some damn fine people. Its good peoples eyes are opening to that.

Never judge a book by it's cover. By the same token never judge a guy by what post either because until you meet them face to face you don't know what they're like. However for the most part I think anyone in this group could meet and be considered friends that have never met yet. I'm with you Classic but strongest drink is Royal Crown Cola.

I know many people who wear Colors and feel you shouldn't judge them as a Whole only as Individuals.

I had the Honor of escorting a group of Hells Angels through Main Street in a smaller town I cover.I think the real thought from Headquarters was to show them a Police presence, and make them thank they were being Honored. The streets were crowded with fans,we went right through town and I pulled over at the Interstate on ramp, for them to go on by.Several stopped and thanked me,seemed very courteous to me.And they have EXCELLANT taste in women.

My father rode a Honda when I was little but all of his buddies rode Harleys, so I grew up surrounded by that type. Now,whenever I hit a port in the States, I head for the biker bar, it's where I feel most comfortable, even by myself.

My favorite run is still the toy run at Christmas time. When you see the faces on all those kids in the hospital (some who will never get to go home) when they get to go up and pick out their very own toys. There is nothing in the world like it.A few years ago there was a special little girl to me, I pushed her bed up to the front, then she had to be carried up on the stage, the look on her face and the sound of her voice was priceless. Nope you did not see me, or any of these other "big bad bikers", with a tear in the eye. Nope not us, We will forever deny it.The bad biker image has been changed for a lot of people, it is spreading with each passing year.I will join this posting crowd for a drink, pass me a SPRITE please.

If I knew then, what I know now.
