Spare magazines and parts?

How many magazines and what specific spare parts do you feel are important to have for every gun you own?

Peronsally I believe that for every handgun you should have 5 magazines, a spare exctractor, firing pin, and recoil spring. For every rifle you should have 12 magazines, a spare exctractor, firing pin, recoil spring, gas tube or piston if has one, and any little nick nack that might break easily.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

That's a damn good point, Blackie. I'm halfway obsessed with buying magazines for my weapons, but nothing else. Gotta have lots of high-capacity mags and lots of ammo for when the SHTF, but what the hell good is it going to do me when I break a firing pin?

I think it's time to start loading up on spare parts. Thanks for the mental boost, man.

I'd like to have at least 1 spare magazine for my 1934 Mauser. Hard to find the whole firearm let alone a spare magazine.

Right now my minimum number for my semi-auto handguns is 3 mags, two for a dual belt mag holder. For my main gun, the Glock, I have a number of extra hi-caps, I think seven in all. The Glock spring reputation is excellent so I have not thought about other spare parts but it's a good idea.

My AK-47 has a large number of 30-rd and/or 40 round mags on hand, and my M1 carbine has several, but not quite as many.

I have a couple spare recoil springs for my Star PD as well as shock buffers which wear out.

I think if I get in a bind I'll probably just change guns, but I'm going to the next gun show with your thought in mind and pick up what extras I can.

Lee, I agree. Of course if your particular weapon has a part,or
parts, that are prone to breakage/wear, have more than one spare.
Examples: Rem. 1100 piston and piston seal and O ring, and shell
latch. Rem. 870 right/left shell latch.

I think I'm going to end up having alot more M1 Carbine mags fairly soon. I noticed R Guns advertisement in shotgun news. 15rd mags for $5 each and 30rd mags for $10. Now thats cheap. $150 will get me 10 of each. Thats 20 more mags for my M1 Carbine.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

Wish I had bought an extra truck load of M-1 Carbine mags. a few
years ago, when they were .99 each.
I don't know how many AR mags I have. When I go down to my old shop
I keep finding boxes of stuff
I forgot I had. Like Christmas all the time.

For the SHTF collection I agree with you. For the Sig, 6 high cap. factory mags, with 2-20's, 1-32rd. and a few aftermarkets for the tactical reloads that we do on some of the shoots (when we HAVE to drop them on the ground) For the Steyr, 9 mags. Because my case holds 8 in the pouches, and one in the rifle. For the shotgun bandoleers. Spare wear parts for all.But for plinkers and collectors, I will buy parts only if they break.

If I knew then, what I know now.
