It is cheaper to use a penny for a small washer than to buy one.
Don
I actually used a Chinese coin for a washer once. the hole was already drilled in the coin.

That's a British problem. A Penny is 1/100th of the British pound.
A Cent is 1/100th of the American dollar.
For the same reason we drive on the right side of a road, this was done to aggravate the British.
Read the back of one. It states ONE CENT, not ONE PENNY.
There are no pennies in the American monetary system.
However, I agree it is time to do away with the penny.....
ABCguns has it right: http://www.usatoday.com/money/2006-05-09-penny-usat_x.htm
It's a CENT, as in ONE PERCENT OF A DOLLAR.
A penny is one percent of the British pound.
People use misnomers constantly in our language, but that doesn't make it correct.
If you refer to a magazine as a clip, does it become a clip?
If you call a disconnector a sear, does it become a sear?
If one calls a tire a wheel, it is not a wheel, it's still a tire.
A catalouge remains a catalouge, even if you call it a magazine.
Algae remains exactly that, even if you call it moss.
Just because the common terminology is "penny", doesn't make it a penny.

Well, ain't we Mr. Perfect today! Don
A penny is worthless! Hell, you can't buy nothing with a freaking penny!!
You can still buy a blonde's thoughts for a penny.[:p]
But then, when I was a kid the wheel had yet to be invented. [:D]
