Hillary Clinton urges benefits for partners of gay victimsNews/Current EventsSource: Miami Herald (via WorldNetDaily)Published: October 12, 2001 Author: H. JOSEF HEBERTPosted on 10/15/01 10:40 PM Pacific by RegalEagleWASHINGTON (AP) - The surviving partners of gay and lesbian victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks should get the same assistance and benefits that the families of other victims get, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., said. Clinton, addressing an audience of gay and lesbian activists, said that in the aftermath of the attacks, ``we have to make clear that what we're fighting for is our values.'' And that includes ending ``discrimination against gays and lesbians once and for all,'' she said. Clinton was the keynote speaker at the annual dinner of the Human Rights Campaign, the largest gay and lesbian political advocacy group in the country with some 250,000 members. Recently, the Rev. Louis Sheldon, chairman and founder of the Traditional Values Coalition, said public and private relief agencies providing assistance to survivors of the terror attacks should not give aid to surviving members of gay partnerships. Clinton made no mention of Sheldon by name, but she declared that ``domestic partners should enjoy the same benefits afforded other couples.'' That includes the same health insurance, inheritance, property taxes and other assistance, she said. The terrorist attacks hung over the dinner and were alluded to repeatedly. ``The attacks on our country were the extreme examples of a hate crime,'' Clinton said. The domestic partners of three of the victims were recognized at the gathering: Tom Hay, the partner of David Charlebois, the co-pilot of the airliner that crashed into the Pentagon; Nancy Walsh, the partner of Carol Flyzik, a passenger aboard one of the jetliners that crashed into the World Trade Center; and Mike Lyons, the partner of Jack Keohane, who worked near the World Trade Center in New York and was killed as the buildings collapsed.

``we have to make clear that what we're fighting for is our values.'' What values? This woman (I use the term loosley as the jury is still out deciding what she is besides B!TC#) has not had any values since she sold her soul to the devil. I my own opinion, of course. Looks to me like she is already trying to make a bid on the White House already. She knows she doesn't stand a chance against President Bush. Why is she raising this issue? I have not even heard of anyone saying that they have not recieved any money for their lost "partner".Is Hillary trying to say something here? Maybe she had a playmate on in the disaster and is looking to collect some money or maybe she is coming out of the closet and is looking for a new "partner" to replace Bill.At any rate, she is only doing this to promote her own political career and doesn't really care about anything else...

There was a woman on one of the news programs last night, that made the best point I've heard so far about denying survivor benefits to "domestic partners". Her statement was (I paraphrase) "If these people are not legally married, they are, under the law, no more than best friends." She's absolutely right. Is Hillary and her ilk advocating giving our tax dollars to "best buddies" now?The woman makes pond scum look good.Mudge

I think a policy like that discriminates against all live-in, non-married heterosexual couples. You get special considerations because you're queer and live with your rump wrangler buddy, but my live-in girlfriend and I don't qualify for the same benefits? What a crock of crap.
