Rifle Choice

Which is the better built rifle? A pre-ban Olympic arms Car-15 or a current production Bushmaster? If the quality is close to the same, which is the better buy/value? The Olympic Car-15 has bayonet and flash suppressor and not sure what else, price is $1195.00 in excellent condition. The Bushy would be new and new going price(cheaper). Thanks for any advice recieved.

I think I would go with the Bushmaster.

Get the Olympic. I have a pre-ban Oly. AR, manufactured in June of '94, and it's a great rifle. I don't think Olympic gets the respect that they're due. In my opinion, the new Bushmasters I've looked at aren't near the quality of my Olympic.

I would use a kit from J&T distribution, go all mil spec , chrome and build your own for around $550.

The match Bushmaster is simply one hell of an accurate service rifle no matter what the price. You can walk into any service rifle match in the country and hold your own against $2700 weapons without difficulty(especially if you are shooting 77grain bullets on the long line). I can't speak to the bottom end of Bushmasters or the Olympic Arms rifle but I'll take lowrider at his word. For myself with my Bushmaster I can shoot mid 90's offhand, clean rapid sitting or drop one, mid 90's rapid prone, on the long line the short sight radius has caused me some difficulties and it's why I still like the M1 or M1A but a young set of eyes should be able to hold high 180's or low 190's all day long. Look at the AR 180B with a NM trigger. Just a thought.

    Just have to mention
Olympic lost all paperwork on how weapons were shiped and on what date
all you can get is a range of dates that they were manufactered

so to the batf your oly and bushmaster are the same neither is ok to have more than the 3 items

flash supressor or threaded barrel that can except one
    detachable mag
    bayonett lug or grenade lancher
    pistol grip
    colapable butt stock

that is all i can rember off the top of my head was thinking there was one more
go to batf site and read up on this before you buy as you do not want to have these people involved in your life

so my advice would be to buy another brand of pre-ban or go with either in a new weapon

Yeah, Olympic had a fire and lost a bunch of records. Now they can only give you a range of dates for manufacture. So based on my AR serial number, the date of manufacture falls between June 20, and July 20, 1994. Still a pre-ban firearm. You say the Feds. don't recognize this? They consider my AR the same as a post-ban gun? Not likely.

The batf says the gun to be a saw must have been one before the ban
    AND REQUIRES WRITEN PROOF
Such as the manufactures writen statment of how it was shiped
As Olympic can not give that information (lost records)
they will say that that this weapon is not legal

DO YOU WANT TO AURGUE WITH SOMEONE WHO WOULD JUST LOVE TO TAKE ALL YOUR GUNS?.......AND THROW IN JAIL TIME TO BOOT?
