m-1 carbine problem

i was out shooting my m-1 carbine today and if it matters it is a winchester and while i was shooting the upper handguard slide forward and fell off wondering if some one could tell me how to fix this and what part do i need to fix it i understand no one can really know without looking at the rifle but need to know what parts to check and maybe find the problem any help welcome thanks

    The handguard will slide off if the barrel band screw is not tight. If the barrel band loosens up and moved forward, there is nothing to keep the handguard in place. Make sure the barrel band screw is secure.

    Yup, barrel band is all that holds that hanguard in place. Easy fix.

    This is an easy fix. If the handguard is loose after tighting the band screw, remove the handguard. At the rear of the handguard, with needlenose pliers, slightly bend the metal flange (on both sides) upward to provide an interference fit.

    With a brass hammer or equivelent, smartly smack the barrel band flange on both sides to force it downward. This also creates an interference fit.

    You problem is fixed.

    Or.............if all else fails, get yourself some M1 A1 duct tape and wrap it around the handguard until it is tight or the roll of tape is finished. [:D][:D][:D]
