WOW! What A Parade

I have attended many St. Patrick's Day parades in NYC, even marched in a few with other LEO's, but this year was the greatest! Two of the highlights for MRS NJRETCOP and I were the moment of silence honoring the victims of 9/11. It was eerie. Anyone who has ever been in NYC can tell you the noise of the city is loud. When you see thousands of people standing so quietly and no car horns blowing, it was a very moving tribute. All that could be heard was a baby crying and the occasional cough in the crowd. The second highlight came when the NYC firefighters marched by carrying 343 massed American Flags, one for each of their fallen comrades, it bought tears from most of the spectators and many of the marchers holding the flags were teary eyed as well. It is just a number until you see how many heros's died.Speaking of hero's, the few cop-bashing posters here on Gun Broker would have been really upset. Anytime a police unit went by, people STOOD UP, applauded and chanted Thank You!! In all my years, I have never seen that happen. You could feel the bond between the people and their protectors. It was awesome. I have never been ashamed of the career that I chose to follow, and never more proud of it either.I would like to thank God that we were able to attend this years parade,(no real health problems, no snow or rain to speak of) the largest ever! I would not want to have missed such a spectacular and patriotic event.PS: The Brown and Tan after the parade tasted better this year too.....As always, GOD BLESS AMERICA-Charlie

Hey Charlie,Sounds like it was a great parade. As you know, we have some horses around here, and all we do with them is parade. We did think about trying the St. Pat's parade in NYC, but felt it was best just to stay home. I can tell you this, It's the crowd who makes a great parade, not the people in the parade. It sounds like you were in a great crowd, at a great parade, in a great city, in a great nation. Sorry I missed it.Scott

I had the honor and pleasure of marching in St. Pat's Parade (njretcop - I was the lieut. leading the contingent of LEO's from outside agencies, just behind the 1st Marine Corps regiment). Yes it was a great day for the Irish (we were ALL Irish that day) but especially for the emergency workers - FDNY, NYPD, PAPD and EMS. The support from the crowd was overwhelming and heartfelt. God bless America!

God Bless you Lieut. Thank you for the work you and all our EMS personnel are doing. My days of marching in the parade have sadly passed due to old age and a severe heart attack last year. We had great times when we marched. I shall long remeber those times. This years parade though was the best ever, even if I could only sit on the curb and watch.Stay safe......
