You had posted notice of the changes to your profile; a few people made comments; I had made one comment about your using the slogan "Jesus is Lord"; you and others responed to my comment; I posted a response this morning--jump here this evening, and the whole topic is gone.Did things become uncivil?Or is it just religious intolerance?Perplexed,Joe

Compettone,I never read the article but from what I've read here, before I would say you hit it on the head, Religious Intolerence it is.

I wish it did remain. It was certainly showing everyone the absurdity of the arguments of some of the intolerant of religious expression types.

Salzo,I agree with you, it's absurd to deny God or any diety, and then with the other side of the same mouth, ask for prayer for this or that. How ridiculous.

I started it, and I deleted it without prejudice. Anyone who starts a thread can delete it for any or no reason. There was no uncivility, but it is clear that many of us vastly differ in our opinions on religion. I love each of you, even the ones who vehemently disagree with me. I would rather focus on our shared interests than our differences.Besides, I felt like some of my later posts on the thread were a little "preachy," and that is not my function here.Sorry if anyone was offended.

Salzo,Just talking off the top of my head as I was recalling awhile back, some posters, declaring themselves to be athiests , and then calling for prayers after 9-11 incidents.

Hate to disagree with you Pelican, but during Tet, I wasn't saying any prayers. Still don't. (Had once read that it is sacreligious to ask God for anything--He has His plans, and the person who prays for something is in reality asking God to change His plan! Thus, the only prayer one should say is one of thanks.)

Pelican--didn't say I wasn't scared, just that I didn't pray. (to whom, anyway?)

Reguarding religion, have ya'll read the first amendment lately? Maybe there is some confusion.I take it to read whatever floats your boat is alright but the state does not either support or supress.I believe or do not believe what ever I choose and am under no obligation to man or state to do otherwise. Is this stirring? Well so be it!!

To all of you religious fanatics out there...praise GOD.....its great to see good people standing up for what they believe or don't believe in, because, YES, that is what freedom is all about.....I don't care what elce you believe in, if you believe in the freedom that our forefathers died for, I'll gladly stand beside you and defend it here today. Jesus loves you, weather you know it or not!

Religious intolerance starts arguments which lead to wars and I think there have been too many people killed in the name of God throughout history. And when religion governs the people, opposed to popular vote, fanaticism runs rampant and we then have terrorism to impose law.By the way,I never said I did not believe in God,I just do not want to be told what or who I should believe in.Thats "religious Freedom"!

gunnut,I realize that God loves us and wants us to love each other.I also realize that you were not trying to impose upon me.Don't we wish that more people would abide by the teachings that were presented to us as the world would be a much better place. Now lets get back to what we agree upon...have I told you about my new pistol?
Freedom is not free, what have YOU done to support it?

Rogerglide: You say your God loves us? Then how come he done put temption into the Garden of Eden--since He already knew how humans would act? Methinks the God you guys talk about is one mean critter. Particularly if you believe He sent his son to have him killed! Now, I ain't too smart, but I sure as hell would not deliberately allow anyone to kill my son--for no one! And if you try to tell me that's cause he LOVED the world, then I just gotta point out he's pretty impotent if he just can't find another way than killing! Shades of Molach!!!

Thanks, David, for the explanation. And thanks to everyone else expressing their opinions on this topic.I will say, that if I post a new topic, I consider it to be polite to let the responses continue--if others consider it important enough to take the time to post a response, either agreeing or disagreeing, I would consider myself to be behaving rudely if I were to delete the whole topic. I've had the experience happen here to me a few times already--and I've only been on this board a couple of months; I've taken the time to give a response (one time it was a fairly detailed explanation on the Experts board) only to see the whole topic disappear--it's annoying.I approach life from a scientific perspective--there is no room in the world of science for "the supernatural". I see (both outward observations and knowing my own thoughts when I "believed") that there are inherent dangers when one surrenders one's intellect to "mystical beliefs"--the events of Sept. 11 clearly in mind as an example of what can happen.Fortunately, most people keep things in balance, and I have to admit, many even seem to use religion as a very positive influence in their lives. If it works for you, I say "More power to you!" To me, religion always ends in circular arguments. I'll keep my "nature and untranscendental words".So "Praise your Lord, and pass me the ammunition!" We will have to agree to disagree on the rest of the prayers.Joe
