Strange things happen at an indoor range

I am a member of my schools pistol club and we have an indoor range in the basement of out schools athletic building. The other night a girl was shooting for the first time. After going through the clubs safety training she bought some ammo and targets and her and one of the range officers were in the stall beside me. She puts the first shot down range and strikes the target hanger. The bullet deflects up and strikes a 4 foot fluorescent light right above my target. Scared the poor girl so much that she was afraid to shoot again. Didn't help that the "guys" were laughing and had a good time with it. No one that was there had ever seen anything like this happen before. I am new to shooting indoors and have always wondered about what would happen with a ricochet. After a little bit the girl did go back to shooting, the test will be to see if she comes back next time.

I shot in an indoor range once... at $15/half hour, it is a real rip off compared to my outdoor range- $75 for the year. I noticed all sort of twisted fired bullets all over- if they were richochets, God help the poor schmucks who shoot there regularly.

Sorry to hear that range fees are so high in the buckeye state. Grew up on a farm there; NO RANGE FEE THERE.Our range fees here just went up to $24 a year. We have 6 ranges from 300yrd to 50yrd and can accomidate up to 50 shooters at one time.I'm not real fond of indoor ranges myself; got splattered once with lead from a bad load being shot next to me and got showered with parts from a MAC10 which I never did figure out.

We do have several ranges in Ohio that cost only ten bucks a year.Only good to 100 yards though and use is heavy.I have an ammo box that I had set on the floor of the lane(Indoor range),I had stepped back to get another gun and the clown next to me "thinks" gun is empty and lets a round rip through the box, taking out 3 shotgun shells and exiting the bottom. Not a word said.I walked out, talked to the manager and he was removed.I'm sure he never learned proper safe handling.Hope someone helped the girl and made her feel comfortable handing a gun, hate to loose a shooter over a poorly placed shot.

Had an indoor range and gun shop go out of business last year. The just reopened and want $150 for annual membership. I told them no effing way. They won't last long and it's a shame for I preferr an indoor range. It's so much easier to pick up my own brass.
So many guns to buy. So little money.

I go to Michigan Tech, and it is a shock to have coeds come to our range, the ratio here is 5 guys to one girl. It leaves for alot of lonely weekends. The range costs me 15 bucks for the year to use. The club gets it 3 nights a week, mondays, tuesdays and thuresdays from 8 to 10. They have 8 ruger mark II's for members to use, no charge.Ammo is $1.90 a hundred and 10 targets will cost you 60 cents. So I can go shoot for over an hour on $2.50. They allow you to shoot your own gun if you want, but if it is larger then a 22 you have to be at least a NRA Bar 1.

Nate,The ratio of guys to girls is 5:1? And you said the guys were laughing at a girl (described in your first post) who made a poor shot? Dumb guys....
