Shotgun work

I have read some articles in recent times about lessening the recoil of 12 gauge shotguns. One method mentioned was "backboring" the barrel. They say this also increases accuracy. My questions are: How much would this work cost, and where/who could I sent the barrel to to have it done?

Mark, Backboring does not lessen the recoil of a shotgun, does VERY SLIGHTLY lessen FELT recoil by spreading recoil over a longer period of time (miliseconds).Backboring will improve pattern uniforimity. Any competent gunsmith (who specializes in shotguns) should be able to perform the work.

In order or reduce the felt recoil of any weapon, first you must put the butt against the forehead of an islamic fundamentalist and pull the trigger. This will reduce the recoil by 90 plus percent. JMHO!

Recoil, felt recoil. It's all the same to me..I'm kinda on the "skinny" side. Just so there is less of it, I'll be happy. Also, if anyone knows a competent gunsmith in the Washington DC area of Maryland, I would be greatful to know of him/her. Thanks.

well, you know more about shotguns than me. Try to offer any help.I'm somehow not worthy of any opinion at GB. Although, I won more first place trophies than the shotgun gods. I even beat Debo, and he knows more about everything that I can ever hope to know.Yet, I'm a ranked S/C shooter. Maybe Debo knows so much more about S/C?Hope I can someday offer an opinion to fancy folks like Debo.[This message has been edited by Homer J Simpson (edited 09-13-2001).]

Mark 2,I've never like shotguns because of the recoil. Then I put Hogue's "spring loaded" recoil absorbing stock on my Mossberg 590--absolutely fantastic! I wouldn't think of putting a shotgun to my shoulder without Hogue's stock; it's a great little invention; well worth the price.
