Stupid people. Right away they should have picked up the dog and sea lion and taken them to waist high water and let the dog try and keep the grip while under water. Idiots

Just leave it there to die, real nice.

I am thinking that we need to ban all assault dogs or at least have better background checks etc.....

assault dogs are no different than assault weapons( 'military' rifles like enfield muskets, krags, spencers, etc) and an outright ban is the only way to deal with them. Assault dog buy backs are coming to a town near you. They will then melt the dogs down

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. -- Amateur video shows former astronaut Mark Kelly, the husband of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, yanking away a dog that clamped down on a baby sea lion at a California beach.

Laguna Beach police tell the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/YQATM5) that the attack happened near an exclusive resort Saturday.

In the video obtained by the Times and KABC-TV, Kelly's screaming daughter tries to pull her dog from the sea lion as two other women help.

Kelly finally steps in and wrests the animal free. It later died.

A spokeswoman for Kelly's political committee says the family crated the dog and then talked to officers. Police say the dog broke from its leash, and no laws were broken.

Kelly and Giffords recently started a gun control advocacy group. The former Arizona congresswoman was shot in 2011.

    1. Not his dog.
    2. His daughter's dog.
    3. His daughter is still a teenager.
    4. So it's his dog!

Getting into a tug of war with a pit bull is downright stupid. What the hell do you expect that animal to do but keep on pulling? All you do is give the dog an anchor to pull harder against.

I agree, grab the dog and drag it into the water. People were yelling exactly that, they were right.

With blood in the dog's mouth early in the video, it would not have saved the baby seal. Drowning the damned pit bull would have been fine though.

I'll correct what I said. Do not drag the dog into the water. Throw it as far into the water as possible.

Maybe they should start a Daughter/Dog Control Advocacy Group.

And this genius wants to tell me what type of rifle I can own.

I thought you had to have at least 4 working brain cells to be an astronaut. Apparently I was wrong.

I don't believe the dog broke from his leash.
The dog also was not trained to obey his master.

It's a pit bull. Normal behavior, sooner or later. Rare exceptions perhaps, but it's a pit bull.

Throw it as far out into the water as possible.

Are you prejudiced against pit bulls?

Exactly. As I said on the other thread on this topic: that seal could have just as easily been a child.

They are people who do not want to take responsibility for their decision to own a powerful breed of dog.

Yet, in spite of the evidence of their own irresponsibility, in their "elitist mindset" they want to dictate to the rest of us what sort of powerful tools we can own.
