GunBroker.com is moving tonight (5/24/2002)
Our contract with our current hosting provider ends at the end of this month. Because of the problems we had with the current provider in January of this year we declined to renew with them and are moving to a different data center. The move is scheduled to begin this evening during our normal maintenance hours of 3:00am to 6:00am Eastern time. We hope to have the move completed within that time frame although you never can tell how smoothly these things will go. Any auctions scheduled to end during this time frame will be extended.
Although we have already revised our DNS settings and will leave forwarders in place at the old data center until the end of the month, it is possible that some of you may be unable to access www.gunbroker.com for a short time. We have created an alternate domain www.guntrading.com that is already pointing to the location where the new servers will be. Please write down www.guntrading.com and use that URL to access our site if you are unable to connect to www.gunbroker.com
You may need to reboot your computer if you are unable to connect to our site. Doing so flushes any local DNS cache.
One of the worst problems with a move of this type is email. It is possible that you mail be intermittantly unable to send us email for the duration of the move. Customers using quality ISPs should not have any problems, but users of lesser ISPs like WebTV, MSN, and AOL may see problems. We are sorry but we have no way to prevent or fix problems caused by ISPs failing to honor DNS TTL and other RFCs. Any problems you see will clear themelves up within a few hours or days at most.
We apologize for any inconveneince but this move is necessary to continue providing the highest quality environment for our users.
