Is there anyone that has any comments on the above mentioned scope and will they stand up to the recoil of a Rem 7MMag?

It all depends on how much you're going to shoot it. If your 7mm is for hunting, which I assume it is, it should do fine. If you're going to go to the range with it and punch 500 paper holes every other weekend, then I'd think not. Just remember that your rifle can only shoot as good as your scope can see.

I have had one on my .300 win mag for the last three years and it has held up just fine. Good optics for the money and holds its zero. regards swede

I received mine by mistake, but kept it rather than having the hassle and cost of returning it. I put it on my Rem 700 ADL .308 elk rifle and got 100-yard groups as good as with any scope or gun I have ever used. I might add that the 44mm objective just barely clears the barrel using regular height rings.

I find it funny that so many shooter's "go ballistic" of types of guns, models, calibers, cartridges, ammo, etc., etc.Spend lots of $$$$$ on such. Yet, when it comes to the most important component of the shooting rig,....common sense flies out the window.Quality , and performance optics can be compared to good tires, brakes, food, tissues, even toilet paper. They all have.....functional performance levels, AND life cycles.Somewhere, at sometime you WILL have messy fingers. When you aren't expecting it, and for some unknown reason need it the least.I won't comment on the Atec scope or others for the moment, other then to say the aspherical lens design that is "new",...is really about....30 years old, To the Europeans.

I am assuming that for shooting maybe 10-20 rds a year that if the rifle already has the aetec on it that unless I really don't like it that it will preform OK on my hunting Rifle. Hate to spend more money if this scope will do the job, and put my money on the high dollar scope foe my 25-06 whick gets shoot 200+ times a year.

You fellow sportsman who have has some measure of sucess so far,.... have my absolute "gladness" that you haven't had any known problems. There is a place for entry level optics-no doubt in my mind. But,......please note the # of posts about low end problems out number better quality.Too many customers bring them to me like David's this Saturday,...S*****s on a Centme. Won't adjust to POA, won't track accurately. Or how about three guys who went to Alaska: Rich had to borrow his guides rifle($12,000 hunt!), other two were brothers(T***o's on both) had to drive back to Anchorage(third brother lives there) to get two new scopes.Lost 1 1/2 days!Too often at the range, I hear muttered words, cursing, looks of anger, frustration. Listen to the snickering, and chuckles from other shooters who either had similar problems, OR avoided them by smart saving & buying better TOOLS.Common shooting industry logic, "I keep hitting my thumb because the nails bend. So, I'll get bigger nails, or a bigger hammer.

When I went to Alaska, most guides I saw used Tasco,Simmons and scopes in that range. I did see one Leupold Vari-X 2II.

Question for Guns& Glass. What would you recommend for an affordable scope if you don't care for the aetec?

Guns & Glasses - I really liked the way you used your "***" to depict those taboo optics companies as if they were swear words. He's absolutely right. You can spend a ton of money on a rifle, but you can only shoot as good as you can see. Some advice I was given earlier on this board was to spend as much on bases, rings and the scope as you spend on your rifle. I think that's good advice and a good benchmark to start with.

Sorry for the delay, I was out picking up a new truck with a short shake down cruise. You should have seen the salesman's face when I asked him to convert the engine cylinder bore size to a caliber.llarena...what's a max $$$ affordable figure?DaRoosta..one of my "optics preaching points"was actually read and given creedance by someone? I'm honored-Thank you.

S*****s is crap in my opinion. I had one on my first bolt-action rifle and the dang thing wouldn't hold its zero. My point of impact kept on changing. I'll never own a Simmons again. However, I watched my buddy's uncle stand up with a Winchester chambered for .22-250 with a Simmons Aetec. From a standing supported position he made roughly a 2 - 2 1/2" group at 300 yds without a problem. Why throw money down a rathole to see whether you may be the lucky winner in the Simmons lottery of scope quality?

Right now is a good time to pick up a Leupold Vari-XII for a good price since they're discontinuing that line. Better yet, get a Vari-XIII or a Burris Signature (Guns & Glasses and a few others on this board tipped me off to the Burris line). I can't see any second guessing with either.

What is it about a burris that makes it better than any of the others?

I think this question has progressively changed from a scope standing up to the recoil of a 7mm to quality of optics from different manufacturers. I am by no means an expert on this subject. It seems like this question resurfaces every few weeks or so. I would suggest searching some of the past posts on scopes to see what other people have said.To answer a portion of your question, some of it has to do with the lens coatings, the quality of glass used, etc. Regardless, the answer lies in the materials used. If you could do a test on any scope made by Swarovski and any scope made by Tasco, regardless of anything else besides manufacturer, you'd be able to see a clear difference. I don't have any experience with Simmons scopes, but there's a reason for that. I don't trust them. The last thing you want is to be second guessing your rifle or any other extraneous shooting habits you have when it's really the optics that are messing up your shot placement.
