George Carlin........

My sister sent me a copy of his book "Brain Droppings" recently, and I just finished reading it. LMAO the whole way through. Just wanted to take a second or two and share one of my personal favorites.

NUMBER FUN.....

If one picture is worth ten thousand words, then one twenty-five-hundredth of a picture should be worth four words. Right?
And if Helen of Troy had the face that launched a thousand ships, and a picture is worth ten thousand words, doesn't that mean one picture of Helen's face should be worth ten million ships?
And, if the night has a thousand eyes, and getting there is half the fun, that means to have fun getting there at night would require five hundred eyes. Right?
And, if getting there is half the fun, and half a loaf is better than none, would getting half way there with a whole loaf be more or less fun?
And if half a loaf is better than none, the night has a thousand eyes, a picture is worth ten thousand words, getting there is half the fun, and Helen of Troy had the face that launched a thousand ships, then in a picture taken at night from a ship that is half way there, how much fun would Helen be having if she were holding a full loaf? And could you see it in her eyes?
OK, now suppose Helen of Troy lived in a halfway house.......

While I don't always agree with so of his to the left stuff you have to admit he is a comic genius. And he can be just as funny without the really coarse language he uses in his stage show, just try one of his early records.

    Pelican-
I've got some of his early stuff, some of it even on vinyl, and you are right about it being vulgarity-free. Not like some of the guys who made their name by every other word being F-this or F-that. Carlins' early work is truly classic. What's your favorite?

After all these years, Al Sleet The Hippy Dippy Weatherman is still my favorite Carlin routine.

    Lowrider-
The Hippy Dippy Weatherman is one of my all time favorites of his. I also like his ramblings about "stuff".

Pelican- I have to disagree. I think Bill Cosby made a fortune NOT being funny.

Right on, Salzo. Nothing I ever heard from Cosby was funny.

I beleive Cosby attended temple, but did not graduate. Or he got his undergrad degree at temple.
As far as him having a carry permit? Does not make him pro gun. It might mean that he is someone who feels he is so important, he should be able to exercise rights that others are unable to.
Rober DeNiro has a carry permit in New York City(anyone who knows anything about carry permits in NYC, knows that unless you are a celeb. or administration friendly, you are not getting a permit). Robert Deniro is a rabid anti-gunner.
I think most Hollywood celeb types who do have carry permits, feel they are entitled to liberties that the regular folk should not be allowed to enjoy.

Carlin recently stated in a magazine that the world would be a lot better off without Christianity and private property. Like many (most?) comedians, he is a frustrated politician...from the far left. He may be funny but he is still a dried out old commie from the sixties. I wouldn't pay a cent to listen to him.

As for Cosby, he bought into the Al Sharpton Tawana Brawley Hoax and also believes white scientists working for the government created AIDs to target and kill Black people. I wouldn't waste a dime on him either. I won't think any less of those who would, you all are bright and decent people, but as for me, I am not spending money on the enemy of freedom.

I like George. I first saw him in 1969 doing stand-up at the Ice House in Pasadena. He's in a darker period now, probably because he can. The media offers more freedom now than it did when he was doing his "7 Words You Can't Say on Television" routine. Compared to Pryor or Dice Clay he's not really that shocking. He may be an old liberal hippie on some issues, but he still makes points. He's also a survivor who can still fill a room.

Huh, I didn't know that about Cosby. I still laugh though when I think about how he said he knew he was fat when he got out of the shower, completely dried off, bent over for some reason, and a cup of water came out of his belly button. Carlin, though, makes me so angry that nothing he says is funny to me. Maybe if in the middle of one of his Socialistic rantings, his head were to explode, I might laugh.

Carlin is still an old commie. He is anti-Christian, anti-free market, and anti-private property. He is typical of those who make it rich in America and then turn around and trash the country that made it possible.

Its your business if you don't care about their politics. But, when you support a celebrity, you are in your own small way helping to make them become better and more well known. So what? Well, then, when they speak out on some issue, say gun control, people are more likely to listen to them. This is why so many political causes employ celebrities as their spokesmen. I buy a thing from K-Mart because they had gun-grabbing Rosie as their spokesmen (pun intended), and or will I support the furtherance of the career of an anti-Christian commie like Carlin. I wonder what he said about American soldiers during the Vietnam War? I wonder what he says about conservatives? I wonder what he says about people who enjoy the hobby of collecting and shooting firearms?

    Fitz,

I agree with you 100%. I used to enjoy watching the show Le Femme Nikita. Walter, the pony tailed hippie commie tech guy, always reminded me of Carlin. I have often said it seems like many comedians are simply left-wingers, masquerading as comedians, in order to push their hidden agendas.
