She is the assistant principal at a public school. I had responded to the school to take an offense report from a student. It was a rather involved incident, and I was there for a long time.
Afterward, the assistant principal said to me, "I'm glad it was you who came when we called."
If you are in the business, you get it. [:D]
That's not to say that no one outside the business will get it; some will, but being appreciated means a lot to us coppers.

...Instead of the guys we usually get.
Yep, that is not hard to understand. Cops are a lot like people, there are some really fine ones. You meet one now and then.
A little girl reported being sexually abused at home. I rattled some cages and lit some fires, and she didn't have to go home after school. Plus, the suspect is locked up.
I'm glad we have people like you to do that job. I sure wouldn't want it.
A couple years ago the dean came into my classroom with a female student in tow. Introduced me to her and asked if I minded allowing her to join my class despite it being past the add/drop deadline. Why, of course I didn't mind since it was the dean personally asking after coming to my room.
As I figured, the student was a bit of a problem child and had a big blow up with another professor in the classroom. He didn't want her in his class any longer so the dean handed her off to me figuring I could deal with her.
I did. She graduated.
No doubt you'll be missed once you're off the street, David.
Too old to live...too young to die...

Good job. Now please report that the suspect hung himself in his cell.

You all are assuming she is telling the truth and not lieing because her parents won't let her have the latest Ipod or cell phone app. [:D] After all, no female has EVER lied about such a thing.
Some of the people up the chain thought the story had credibility. A judge ordered at least one other child in the home removed to foster care.
I don't know whether she is telling the truth. In a case like that, you have to start with the presumption that the victim is being truthful. Part of me hopes she is, for then our course of action was necessary and justified. Part of me hopes she isn't, because what she described shouldn't happen to anyone.

Regardless of her telling the truth...
The words she obviously used sparked attention enough to warrant action.
Sometimes that's all you need to get things accomplished.
Then the truth can be determined...

Where I grew up, people like this "went to visit his cousin in Florida" and wound up under a hundred feet of back fill in a strip mine. Case over!
