She wants a new one. Here are the guidelines:1. She is a 100% revolver girl.2. Must be low recoil. She has a .38 spl.3. Must have a 4" or shorter barrel.4. Must be DA.5. Must have a visible hammer. She has this thing about the way concealed hammer revolvers look - she hates 'em.I was thinking about an 8 shot .22 mag. But, I am open to suggestions. Her B'day is 01-19, so I'm gonna get it in the next three weeks.

The S&W Moel 60 or 60 LS with a 2 and 1/8th inch barrel. It's a 5 shot .357 magnum, but you can just load it with .38's. Nice piece, nice price.

I don't have much experience with the .32, but I'll check it out.I'd like to keep it around $300 - $350. Can go a little higher, but would like to go a little lower.

You didn't say whether she was primarily interested in target shooting or self-defense? Or what was wrong with the old one other than being old? (Not that I am the one to advise you, I just thought the experts could use this information.)

I gave my wife a Taurus 4" satin nickel in .32She seems pleased with it. Very easy to shoot well and very easy to load for.I have considered rechambering to .32 Mag, it has enough room and strength.

How about a SW model 66. She can shoot 38 and 357 mag through it.38 would be minimal recoil and she could gain control, confidence and expertise to go up to the 357 mag.Kidd

Charter Arms apparently now makes a Pug-sized .357 magnum that is a ported snubnose. These are light weight, have neoprene grips for extra cushion and could be loaded with .38s if necessary. Charter's prices are within your budget, which can't be said for a lot of revolvers these days (new, anyway). As far as recoil is concerned, she won't feel it when the balloon goes up, and a little soreness from a decent caliber will hurt a lot less than an assault. Just be sure the trigger pull is light enough.I used to own a Charter Bulldog Pug .44 special (non-ported) in stainless and it never did more than make the web of my thumb a little sore by the end of a shooting session. I'd suggest considering a smaller frame .357 like the Charter, ported if it's in the budget, then practicing with mostly .38s and just enough .357s, then carrying .357s for defense. My favorite alternative suggestion is to decide precisely what brand, caliber and gun you want (like a Ladysmith revolver, for example, which did have a lightened trigger pull) -- and then finding a well-kept used example on the resale market. This is also do-able these days through your local classifieds, through Gunbroker, or through magazines like Gun List. Any decently made gun which is shot little and well cared for can last a hundred years, so a gun with even a couple hundred rounds through it may just be through the break-in period. Nothing against your 22 magnum idea, by the way. If higher capacity is a concern, a well-aimed 22 magnum may be enough bullet. 22s and 25s have been known to bounce off people's heads, but I believe the 22 magnum has a much better reputation. Still, you're looking to stop an attack, not just perforate the perp, and while the stopping power debate will go on forever, .38+ps and 125 gr. .357s have mighty good stats. I don't know as much about the .32 mag(?), but I believe that may have been one of the Ladysmith chamberings and I would trust Smith & Wesson on its merits. Excuse the ramble and any errors that may have krept in. Just my 2 cents.

Personally, I prefer the .22 LR in pistols to the .22 Mag. I just don't believe there is enough advantage in the magnum out of a short barrel to justify the added ammo expense.

i'd say take a look at taurus's line of titanium revolvers. as i wait for my pistol permit in new york(ha!) i've setteled on a few of taurus's line for the better half. they come in .38-.44spcl, and even a nifty seven shot(maybe 8?) .357 mag. most are ported, all are da, and you have many options as far as internal hammer or not. plus, if she is concerned with asthetics the titanium line comes in dull grey, electrolite blue& gold also. a good choice for the ladies, in my opinion
whatever you do, try to look unimportant, the enemy may be low on bullets

.32, .38, .44, doesn't really matter. I say that any gun you can get for your wife is one hell of a trade.

I have .357 Ruger that I adore. Picked it up for just under $300, used but in great shape.

She might like a Ruger SP-101. It's a 5-shot .357 revovler. A great little gun that's solidly built, indestructable and reasonably priced. I've been carying one with a 3 1/4 inch barrel for the past six months without any complaints what-so-ever.

Since you've already made your decision, this is gonna' fall on deaf ears, BUT....I gotta' go with Offeror on this one. You want to stop this perp or just perforate him a little? Plinking be damned. If you want this .22 magnum to stop a perp, IMHO you're asking it to do something it wasn't designed to do. Mudge the big bore freak
