I'm very angry with my new M1A.

Now that I've calmed down a bit:I got my M1A this afternoon from Davidsons. I opened the box and what did Evil find? Pieces. Bits and pieces of misc. crap. The sights were trashed and laying all over the inside of the box. Little bits of elevation knob had wiggled around in the box during shipment and "ruined" the synthetic stock (as in cannot be resold for any decent amount of cash, but still functional). I'm not pleased. This was my first transaction with Davidsons and, when I called them, I got a canned "Sorry, we can't help you" response from the sales girl. Springfield Armory is closed for the day and I'll get them on the horn first thing in the morning. I'm not worried about getting my cash back: That's simple. Problem is that the item is allocated, so a small-time dealer like myself will probably see his replacement M1A sometime around the second coming of our Lord Christ. Why is life so damned hard?!

cpermd:Yes, they will replace it when they get another one in. Like I said, it's an allocated item, so I'm an easy 2 months away from getting my replacement. Lowrider:I'm sure it was a UPS damage issue, but Davidsons is also to blame. The item was not padded at all to prevent damage. Just packed loose in the factory box with a carboard box covering it for shipping. The damn package SHOULD have had bubble wrap or something around the rifle to protect it. Even though UPS is hard on their rifles, so is the average field guy. This is my first Springfield purchase and I'm not too impressed with their durability claims in regards to their products. Maybe I shouldn't be going off half-cocked, but I'm pissed and need to vent!comp:Make it $75 and you've got a deal!J/K

You dont mention any sign of damage to the box. Sounds to me like somebody was pricking with it before they shipped it. Typical Davidson's.

That's why you are better off either a) buying a gun in person or b) stating that you want it bubble wrapped or you will not take it. All you have to do is demand it, you are the customer. Even if it costs an extra $1-$2, it's worth asking in the future.

Antique:You're right, of course. I hadn't noticed that since I was so pissed. Absolutely no damage of any kind to the outer box. Sounds like some goob over at D's was screwing around with my puppy, broke it, and then stuffed it in the box anyways. Now I'm pissed. I'll let y'all know what Springfield says.

Evil.....If it's of any help, I've got a stock sitting in the corner that you can have if you'd like. It's wood but you're welcome to it. I'll never use it. I don't know whether Garand and M1A sight parts are interchangeable or not but if you'll let me know what needs replacing, I'll see if I have some in the parts box.E-mail @ eneybl1@ix.netcom.comMudge the helpful

LIKETOSHOOT is absolutely right. Keep going up the ladder until you get the answer you want. The old "squeaky wheel" game. I worked with the public for 34 years and seldom saw it fail. Tell 'em you'll put the word out by every means you know how that they couldn't care less about their customers. Most FFL holders already know this anyway. There's a certain amount of BS we have to take in this life....That ain't some of it!Mudge the vindictive
