stirrin' the pot Class III style

I've made some comments on a Class III thread in "Ask the Experts" that probably belong here. It seems that I've attended many gun shows that have Class III dealers present and most of these dealers that I've met are cocky SOB's that have an attitude of "I'm better than you because I can own them and you can't". I guess I don't understand the fascination with Class III ownership. It must have something to do with the fact that I've had my fill of full-auto jollies with the Army and don't need any more. God forbid I should ask one of these guys a question about one of their guns though. They can be such smug little weasles.

One of my best friends is a Class-III dealer and he's just about 180 degrees from what you describe. Most of the time, when he's talking about full-auto weapons, it's technical rather than the normal BS you usually get. And he won't even admit to owning (actually collecting) or having Class-III in stock to people he doesn't know and trust. (Although I think the range on his farm has tipped off the neighbors!)Oh, and there's one other difference between him and most other Class-III dealers. He actually makes a pretty good living at it. In a typical year he sells about 70-80 Class-III weapons. No sales at gun shows and probably only 1-2/year to individuals. But when a PD somewhere needs weapons, his name comes up on a regular basis. In fact it's a lot easier to get him to talk about restoring old tractors than automatic weapons. So I guess his BS level just isn't up to most typical Class-III dealer standards. (Although, ever since we were teens, I've maintained that his brown eyes prove he's full of 'it up to his eyeballs!)Tom

Idsman....I've found the same thing. ATTITUDE. If you want to sell them one, they start talking about how they have to deduct the cost of tax stamps and paperwork and anything else irrelevant they can think up trying to get your asking price down. Sell them your Class III for what they want to give you for it and watch the price go through the roof by the time you can get back around the arena to their table. I don't even talk to 'em anymore.Mudge the contemptuous
