Excellent buy! Dell gives the best bang for the buck. If it were me I would updrade the monitor to 19 or 21 inch. Otherwise, go for it.

That sounds like a great deal! I like "oldsoldiersneverdie"'s idea of having a bigger screen. You shouldn't have to upgrade that new 'puter for at least a few years.

Bubba -*Sounds* good, but just to be sure, go to the Dell site & price one exactly as described as a 'student / educator.' I agree w/ prior poster - a 16" monitor is just to blinking tiny.

I got a Dell last yr, and I love it, I also recommend upgrading the monitor, and maybe get yourself a zip drive for them big files you want to save, I think that is a great deal, are they offering the 3yr/3yr/ 24 hour a day service and tech support warranty?

Bubba .... just a thought ... and although this seems a pretty good deal .......Go look at .... http://www.computersurplusoutlet.com and ... http://www.computergeeks.com Maybe not the full package you are after but .. some VERY good deals. And ...... please ... don't be hung up on the ''latest CPU'' .... you can get PIII stuff much cheaper and .... IMHO .. the small difference in speed is almost insignificant ....... and, you'll save many $$$$'s/!!!!!!Just my 0.02!

Bubba, that sounds like a good deal. I am the IT person at my company and the Dell Optiplex is the best line going. Dell makes a lesser line so if you compare, remember to compare Optiplex with Optiplex. That 16" monitor is probably a 17" with 16" view area. Most Dell monitors are actually Sony Trinitrons (Best Screen Around).Dell is the highest rated system for satisfaction. Now at that price you can't go wrong. Dell also has another line with same features as you said but at about $250 less money. It may be best to go with the lower line since most computers useful life is around 3 years. (3 years based on changing technology and advancements in this industry).Bottom line is shop around and get the most bang for the buck.Good Luck

Bubba, as a Network Administrator/Asst. Director IS. I can say your getting a pretty good deal. We have approx 3000 pc's enterprise wide about 500 being Dell's. The only problem we have had is the hard drives. Out of the last 250 optiplexes approx 160 of them have had bad hard drives, However Dell service has been outstanding. Next day on the new hard drives is their rule... hope this helps Bobby J. Shults, CCNA,CCDA,CCNP,CCDP MCP,MCSE,MCDBA,CNENetwork AdministratorChoctaw Nation of Oklahoma

Bubba- We have a dell.....great service! When ever we do have some problem, I call and they help get it fixed. Our cdrom went to sh... they sent a new one to replace it. They helped me replace it over the phone and we sent the old one back, no charge. Same when our hard drive got fried by a virus. Never had any problems with service except waiting on the phone! I would get another Dell when this one goes......no question!

BubbaI just looked in the mirror and didn't see a computer expert looking back but.....I just got a CD writer to replace the CD drive in my computer. I got the TDK VeloCD 16x10x40 from Bestbuys.com. Cost me $89 after rebate. Installed it myself. Believe me, if I can do it, ANYBODY can do it. Just three plugs and 4 screws and Voila. Now I've got space on 1 CD for what it would take about 600 floppys to accomplish. AND I can overwrite CD's to store ongoing info. (Like ALL of Josey1's posts. Well that might take 2 CD's.)Just an alternative to the ZIP drive.Couldn't hurt to check it out.Mudge
