NRA Mocks 'Ludicrous' Lauer, Gephardt, DonahueIn an article headlined "When Brains Go on Vacation," the National Rifle Association ridicules "ludicrous" statements made after the terrorist attacks. The November issue of the NRA magazine America's 1st Freedom offers these gems, among others:NBC "News" morning gabfest host and tabloid cover boy Matt Lauer saying "pilots are human beings; they get depressed; they get suicidal; they get angry. If they're armed, isn't that a formula for disaster?"The magazine's response: "Earth to Matt! We already trust our lives to pilots every single time we fly. Doesn't it make sense to better equip them in order to help make us all safer?"House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt, D-Mo.: "I don't think we need pilots to be trying to be security officers."Response: "And we don't think we need career politicians telling airline captains how they're allowed to control and secure their ships."Former gab host Phil Donahue argued that "the memory" of the terror victims would not be "honored by going out and killing other civilians."Response: "To our knowledge, nobody in the Bush Administration had advocated 'going out and killing other civilians.' Incidentally, what would be your response to the attacks, Phil? Maybe a nice thank-you note to Osama Bin Laden and an invitation to dinner?" http://www.newsmax.com/showinsidecover.shtml?a=2001/10/23/190457

That statement by Matt Lauer conclusively demonstrates how totally retarded these anit-gun nuts are!If a pilot is depressed he may kill someone with a gun? What the hell just happened with a suicidal nut using a plane? My god! UNARMED, a pilot can kill 5000 with his damn plane!!!Wish there had been someone there to point out how absolutely assinine Lauer and his opinions are.

Well look who this nut works with, another liberal democrat, Katie Courick.During election night, she was one of the newscasters, together with Dan Rather, annoucing prematurely their candidates wins, state by state. Before the polls close.Dan Rather quote: "another win for us", this guy is one of the only people in this country to believe Bill Clinton is an honst man. These people are a joke, good reporters do not interject their own spin on anything which may be headline news or controversial, but apparently they don't know that. This is the problem when the networks allow people like this to host, info shows and mix in newscasting, they don't know when the recipe show ended and the news program began.[This message has been edited by turbo (edited 10-23-2001).]

Lowrider, no offense, but it must be that you are either too young or too old to have a clear memory of Uncle Walter's broadcasts. His views were no less skewed than the present anchors. But he had dignity, subtlety and presence which gave him undeserved credibility in delivering his spin. He was a master propagandist; I agree completely that the current crop are not in the same league. Thankfully. Did I spell it all correctly this time, BTW [grin]?

Yeah, I know. Not too young OR too old to remember his broadcasts. I wasn't real politically savvy when Walter was in his prime but I know he had the typical mainstream news liberal slant.I guess I was commenting more on his intellect and grasp of the news than his political leanings. Newscasters like him wrote copy, did research and really lived the news and world events. Not like todays glamour boys and girls who do nothing more than read from the teleprompter and try to look good on camera.I watch Canadian news quite a bit and the contrast between their on-camera people and ours is striking. In Canada, being an ugly S.O.B. doesn't keep you from a career in broadcasting. They just look like ordinary people, not Hollywood actors.

Iconoclast.....Not that you need any reinforcement from me but you've got it ABSOLUTELY right about Uncle Walter. (And I, I'm sorry to say, AM old enough to remember.)Mudge
